Advice for beginner hoping to gain size & strength

There is a lot of 'info' behind that routine and a lot of trainees have followed the programme with great success. As is clear from my post and the subject of the thread it's a beginner routine designed to build a foundation for either bodybuilding or strength training. When the trainee grows...

If there was ONE piece of advice you could give to a newbie, what would it be?

Put 90% of your effort in compound exercises, preferably deadlifts, squats and overhead presses.

    My Workout Video

Very nice. I especially enjoyed seeing those romanian deadlifts. The question about the difference between SLDL and romanian deadlifts pops up every now and then on most boards and that video clearly shows what differs. You're strong dude.

Discuss: Ronnie Coleman disses barbell curls

About the 'ask the champ' Q&A's... I think they often 'combine' common questions into one mail - that is, the exact words in a mail is not authentic but they represent common questions asked in the mails they receive. In many cases (I know that's common in a lot of magazines, outside the BB...

    Incorporating Deads

Doing barbell bent over rows after deadlifting is waiting for a catastrophy to happen, IMHO. I think it's quite tough having both in the same workout, but if you insist, do the bent over rows before the deads, so your lower back can support you. I'd say: Deadlifts Chins Dumbbell rows

    Respect

Good post. Although, I can't understand how these obvious alter egos are still present after a mod has noticed them. Don't you have the right to ban members?

    How low do you go...

Depends on your body type. A full range is of course the best if your physique allows you to do it in a safe manner. In the bench, if you're very thin and have long arms, the bottom position may get awkward and put your shoulders in a dangerous position. Otherwise, go for the full range motion.

    My new workout Routine

I haven't read Yates' book so I can't answer that but honestly it doesn't matter much. The squat is without doubt the superior leg exercise and in my opinion squat/leg curl/leg press will get the same results as squat/leg curl/leg extension. Both quads and hamstrings get worked regardless. When...

    My new workout Routine

I think this looks good. Good thinking not tinkering with it - you can't make everyone happy. It's not a conicidence it looks just as it does. Just take it easy with the 'to failure' stuff as it often does more to increase recovery time than increase growth. If you go to 'real failure' every set...

    I am weak.

Go for an old school program and push your squats, deads and overhead presses. Keep the number of exercises to a minimum. Eat a lot, get stronger and discover that muscle growth will follow suit.

Gains from creatine stop when you stop?

I couldn't feel any differences in strength but I did gain several pounds of water and kept weight after having quit the creatine.

    New Workout Ideas

This is just my opinion, but if you're not going to compete or anything, don't cut. You look great and healthy and I doubt you'd feel better if you lost a few pounds of fat.
