I've returned to church. Third week in a row for the first time since I was maybe 20 and still coming home during the summer from college. Different denomination, wayyyyyy different style, but it's fitting me like an old pair of jeans.

btw, I do realize this will get scoffed at and that many if not a fair majority here are non believers. But regardless what others think, this has been an immeasurably good move for me.

if and when i ever have kids i'll start going again.
plus the wafer things for communion taste good w/the wine

The church I'm going to now doesn't do that....and there's too many people....1500 seat auditorium, four services every sunday. That'd be a ton of wine.

The format is 5-10 minutes of announcements or some special presentation relevant to the current series of messages, 30 minutes of praise music in the form of christian rock with a full out lights show and concert feel, 30-35 minutes of the pastor speaking. It's actually occasionally...dare I say it...fun. I laughed more than a few times this morning at various points, sang some inspirational music along with a very talented band, and listened to a guy talk who is very enigmatic and easy to listen to (and happens to be saying things that resonate with me right now).

Not church lite by any means though....more conservative than what I'm used to, but that works for me right now. I'll never be someone that has to agree with everything to get anything out of it.

Celebration Church?

Nah...just googled it, pretty much the same format though, similar look and feel.

I have a buddy who is reallllly big into the Celebration Church. In all seriousness it saved his life. From drug addict to successful small business owner, husband, and father all within a few years time of joining the church. He let's me know this every time I see him too :D

A lot of EFers may not believe but Im sure we have no problem with you going to church. So Im sure theres no reason to call it kool aid drinking.

haha....the megachurch thing just grabs some people. It grabbed me for sure. They (some non denominational megachurches) get a rep for being kinda culty and I guess to some degree I can see why from an outsider perspective. People that attend regularly tend to be really really vocal about how much they love their church haha. But I'm seeing why - You have a lot of people there because they want to be there, instead of because they feel obligated, which breeds an infections mood of enthusiasm. There's a genuine feel of community that I never felt in either of my parents kneel/stand/sing/recite creeds blah blah blah churches. This place also has a heavy heavy emphasis on volunteer work locally and not so locally, which puts the words into actions and makes it stick a little better.

Just a joke based on what I said in my previous post about places like this having a rep as being kinda cultish.

I think its great you have found a church that makes you happy. There is no shame in believing in the one true God and wanting to worship him. I choose to worship him in a diferent way than you but would never judge you for your choice....

All it is a contemporary church, instead of singing hymns on an organ, they sing modern christian songs with a band.
More mainstream preaching instead of the old "fire and brimstone" sermon. More emotion and energy instead of the kneel/stand service.
I don't know you, but good for you! I'm glad you found a church that fits you.

this sounds like the start of a tv mini-series.
a story of love and redemption in a small town
(you end up banging the recently widowed preacher)

Nothing wrong with saying Hi to God and good things....

Turn the other cheek(unless life threatening) , do good things, and do no harm, and be on the right path

I had a friend who was considered one of the best service organist in the South.

People tried to hire him for weddings and would requested some popular love ballad and he would reply, "we're in a house of God, not a rock concert".

If they didn't comply with traditional wedding hymns he wouldn't take the job.

I'm sure his issue was that these people were requesting secular music...which is not what's going on in the sort of churches I'm talking about....it's still praise music, just played with another instrument.

Yeah, well some folks are traditionalists and operate via they were taught.
I"m sure he's a great organist, but things have changed in the world even in the church.
People would rather go to church and be free, and listen too the Christian music that moves
them into the realm of God instead of feeling like there on the Lawrence Welk show with no
emotion involved. Not saying your friend is dull or anything, but that attitude your friend
has scares away alot of people especially the young crowd.

It's nice your friend has that much respect and admiration for the house of God.However,
IMO I don't think God cares in what manner he is praised as long as he's praised.

i'm not a member of any church, and haven't really given thought to which one i might want to be with...when/if it happens i'll let you know.

check out a catholic sess, lostsa PT and the wafers are usually
pretty good esp with some wine

Congratulations! Sincerely.

Even as an atheist, I completely recognize the power and significance of religion. I don't believe because I can't logic it out, but I sure can't logic-out that God doesn't exist either.

Our brains were either designed or evolved to accept religion, so it doesn't really matter either way. If you are right, then you chose correctly in the grand scheme of things. If you are wrong, you aligned with an evolutionary mechanism that helped us survive to the point we are now. It's a win either way.

-core strengthing kneeling
-light cardio jockeying for good communion postioning
-upper body workout signing the cross repeatedly

Christ wafers = best PED of all time. makes DBol look like pez

I am Happy for you, never be ashamed of serving your maker, even thou there are many people here who are ignorant to the fact that Jesus saves. All the artificial intelligence and degrees in the world don't mean crap, when you're too damn dumb to serve The Lord Jesus Christ. Drink the kool aid girl.

i very easily could get back into going to church and not really even fully buy into it.
but the sense of community, the good peeps, the music, and the ceremony of sunday dressing up churching
it up then eating...great memories from all this and i never really was a believer
