I saw a picture of her the first time today. She was a pretty little girl. When I was 15 and a girl like that was being abused, I would have stepped in and um... played "hero" on her behalf.

Not exactly. I was saying that it's inappropriate to criminally charge other people because she killed herself. I offend people all of the time. If one of them gets so upset that they commit suicide, should I be responsible? It's a dangerous legal precedent.
What I'm saying here is that there are some 15-17 year old boys at that school with no idea of chivalry, or maybe they just lack a pair of testicles. She was afraid she was going to get "beat up" during a break between classes. If I was a young man there and knew what was happening, I would said something along the lines of "No, you're not going to get beat up. I'll walk to your next class with you". Apparently the bullies followed her while she walked home. I would have walked home with her. If anyone wanted to get violent, they would have to go through me first. Then I would probably have ended up dating that cute little girl.

I can understand punishing them but I just don't think they should be accountable for her suicide. They had no way of knowing what she would do.
I still don't understand why another student didn't intervene. That's much more powerful than a teacher intervening.

Seriously though, I hear what gorillahung is saying; when I was 15, I'd definitely have played the hero for an attractive girl without hesitation. Not cuz it was the right thing to do, but I'd have been thinking of the 'reward'. Surprised the guys at this school didn't think of it..their game is WEAK.

So, where the fuck were this girl's parents? Did they know she was being followed home and getting beat up?
That's the real question...what the fuck were they doing about it? Kids have been getting bullied and beat up for hundreds of years (and more). They either fight back, get help from friends, tell parents or someone! Mom and dad should have started giving her rides and enrolled her in self-defense classes. Get her some confidence and a skill set on how to handle herself in situations. Sometimes if you just fight back enough to do a little damage, you might still get beat up but the beatings will stop, and the bullies go look for someone else.
I know for damn sure if it were my son getting bullied, I'd make sure he got some quick training on how to handle himself. And if it's 4 or 5 (or more) against one, fight dirty as hell...kick, bite, use a rock, stick, throw dirt, curb stomp, whatever. Mother fuckers will think twice before they try to bully anyone again.

I have the ability to remember what it was like to be 15. I don't know what's so wrong with anything I said. At least I would have done something to end the girl's torture.
When I was in high school they had this program where they tried to blend severely mentally handicapped kids with the regular students. They were inegrated into classes like gym. In my gym class we had the most severely retarded kid. He was tortured nonstop. There was one time when we were changing in the locker room. I was a junior that had ripped muscles and could bench 240 at a weight about 140 lbs. Two freshman decided to beat up the retarded kid who was sort of a big guy but he had no clue how to fight. After a minute of seeing these little kids gang up on him I took my shirt off and went over there with my "big" pecs and ripped abs showing and I told those kids that if they want to fight 2 against 1 then they could fight me instead. That ended the incident nobody that saw that would bother that kid again.
Yeah I wonder that as well. SURELY there were some signed that she was struggling with something. I think a good attentive parent would have known something wasn't right even if she didn't come out and say something. I am sure she had moments of being down, not wanting to go to school,etc etc. Sad!

The problem I have with this is the fact it doesnt matter if she was cute or not. Someone with a descent upbringing should have offered to be her friend. I also agree with the "where were the parents?" question. An involvd parent should have known this was going on.

I never stopped a bully from making fun of a kid until one of my football coaches' father died. The whole team went to the funeral and he told me how his father helped this kid who was bullied during high school when he was a kid. He later told my coaches dad that he was the only reason he didn't kill himself. My coach told me to be a Great man like his dad.
But bino is true, not only does hardly anyone have the balls to stand up to any bullies not involved with them, but most people either don't care or aren't that good of people to want to stop it either.

I was about 7 years old, in Oklahoma in the 70's, where racial tensions were still very high. I was stopped by a group of black kids (all older than me) while I was riding my bicycle. They harassed me, threatened me, stole my watch, pushed me around a little, but didn't kick my ass, and actually allowed me to ride off on my bike (niggas didn't steal my bike!).
I went home and told my dad and my brother. My brother was about 14 (and already over 6' tall), grabbed a baseball bat and they both jumped in the truck and went back down there. As soon as they pulled up and got out of the truck the kids pulled out the watch without being asked, and began apologizing and saying they were only joking.

But, yes, as I have said previously, I have also fought back bullies myself. I was a smaller kid for a long time. I didn't hit 6' until I was about a junior in HS, and then I was skinny as a rail (mitch style).

I see options, where you apparently see failure as the only option. My story was a one time incident. Hers was ongoing. Her situation escalated. The way I see it she could have done several things. Told people, got friends to walk with her, got parents to give her rides, carry a stick, bat, mace, whatever. Do her best to avoid situations, change her routine, anything.
Maybe I feel strongly about this topic too. Maybe you just have sympathy for victims, and I just want to empower people not to be victims anymore. Which sounds better to you?
