my son got a job at BK.

he just turned 17 and hasn't been able to get a job. because the economy is so bad, most jobs that teenagers get are taken by adults out of work. (I got gas today and the guy that pumped it was telling me he used to work in a car dealership and can't find any other job but that).

so my son and his friend (his friend is a good looking kid on the football team) went in and they interviewed them and hired them.

i hope they know my son could eat his weight in burgers for lunch.

There's nothing wrong with a job at BK for a 17 year old. (Hell, there's nothing wrong with a job at BK for someone who's 42 considering the economy.) I know several people who had "meaningless crap jobs" as teenagers/young adults who are now in positions of great responsibility. This is a very good thing.

oh, i'm happy he's working. this summer he worked a little construction (very little. he just did some clean up because of his age, he wasn't allowed near much else).
and he worked at the local ball field with a bunch of friends, at the concession stand.

we live in the middle of nowhere, so there wasn't much he could do without a car.

I know exactly how that goes...

Sorry to fuck with you Leto, but you aint gotta smoke to slang. Aint you ever heard "don't get high off your own supply"?

no, but i'm pretty sure that just because you knew one guy who sold and worked at BK, that it doesn't mean i need to worry about every kid (or just my son) who works at BK.

:)

BK is cool, White Castles has better benefits. Congrats, as I can't even find a job here. I might have to move.

he doesn't need benefits and is only working part time (high school senior.) the good thing is that if he doesn't mind the job, he can work there over the summer too.

Sweet!

BTW:
I am not home so I can't take care of that till tuesday stilleto :p

That is good, glad to hear that he got a job letto. It is important for them youngins to get jobs so as though they can be prepared to handle it when they move on their own.
There ain't nothing wrong with being 17 and working at a BK. You never know, some day he could make management.

although there's nothing wrong with that, he doesn't want to stay there long enough to be management. Once he starts college, i'm hoping he has a better idea of what he wants to do and then get a beginning job in that field (possibly IT work).

for now though, i'm happy he'll be earning his own money.

17 and working nuttin wrong with that now he can take the ladies out in his honda

I remember my first job and not having to rely on my parents giving me my allowance. It was awesome. It felt so good to get that weekly check and to be able to make the decisions as to where the money went.

That is good that your son atleast knows that he wants more for himself. Hopefully he will use his college education towards a career that will always be around even when the economy sucks ass. IT work is a good idea, our previous pastors son (and pastor when he stopped preaching) did that, made damn good money too.

i know- they do really well. my son is under the impression that computer peeps are all super geeks. I have been trying to tell him that in my last two jobs, not only were the IT guys young and cool- they were also the ones that everyone wanted to be nice to.
He's really good at computer stuff and i think he'd like it. He also wants to be a motorcycle mechanic, but in bad economy- people don't buy luxury items like motorcycles, or they have their friends help them. if he makes a decent living at IT work, he'll have enough for whatever hobby he likes.

but, luckily he's going to get an associates degree before he decides, so he's got time.

its more about the experience of getting a boss, his relations to other employees, knowing what it feels like to earn what you get in life that is most important in life. Working at BK is great experience in the sense that he will awlways be grounded no matter what great things he does in life. When I was 14 I worked as a busboy in a bellydancing restaurant in my town (very cultural part of LI), I busted my ass and actually made good money for a kid. The owners loved me because of my positive attitude and speed with which I worked. These are some of the attributes that make me successful today.

a cultural part of LI? hmmm... are we talking Hempstead cultural or Great Neck cultural?

:qt:

I grew up in an affluent household, but worked at mcdonalds in high school.
Nothing wrong with getting a fast food job while a teenager.
Not gonna say it taught me humility or anything like that, but it kinda did.

good. i have a feeling my son is going to like working, and he's already charmed the manager.

Great point about how bad the food is for you, he can enjoy this while he's 17 but really needs to understand that this is not a healthy lifestyle by eating this on a regular basis.

A job is great for anyone at that age. I never had a formal job in high school because of sports, but I was my dad's yard bitch...lol.

he knows.
he's actually quite thin and a healthy eater.
he's also got a metabolism that's insane, so if we go out to breakfast, he has pancakes, bacon, sausage, 2 eggs, an english muffin, coffee, and OJ and an hour later he's hungry again.

My stepbrother worked at mcdonalds when he was a teen and when he got home his clothes would make my dad's whole house smell like the food.
They made him wash his clothes nightly and without any other clothes with them.
