can igf/hgh really cause diabetes?

i can't remember where i heard this. it was a long time ago and i didn't think i would ever be interested in either of these so i just dismissed it.

now i'm curious about them both, mainly igf and would like to know if it's true or not. if it is true how often does it happen with both and is it because the users are careless or is it a freak (uncontrolled) occurrence?

i'm really interested in igf's ability to make the injection spot grow (i don't have chicken legs but i wish my calves would grow a little more) and hgh's overall effects on the body.

i wouldn't be doing either of these for a couple years at least but it's something that's been bugging me.

Cause diabetes???

No evidence for this, however I have heard of a number of high dose long term users suffer from insulin intolerance.

This is a relatively common side, so much so that a form of recombinant hGH has been developed that avoids this, sorry, can't remember the pharma name.

I don't know where I recently read it but it said do not use hgh if type 1 diabetes runs in your family as it will speed it up. I can't recall exact text but it was something along those lines.

So basically from that it's stating it wont create it, but it will speed it up...

As I said, don't know how true it is or where I read it.

great thanks. i'm glad to hear that. luckily i don't have any diabetes in my family at all. i guess the guy was just joshing me...or he just didn't do his homework.

Also found this on the genotropin website:

Growth hormone should not be used in patients with diabetes who have certain types of eye problems called diabetic retinopathy.

So it can lead to visual impairment at a quicker rate than normal if you suffering from diabetes.

Cannot find much more and it's bed time for me but I am sure others will chime in!

This is also why a lot of more experienced users will incorporate insulin into any run with HGH as a way to overcome any elevated blood glucose levels plus take advantage of the synergy between the two.

hmm that kinda scares me. i'm really not into the insulin thing. i don't feel comfortable manipulating something like that. how much hgh does it take to decrease sensitivity? i would think it would take a lot other wise it wouldn't be as popular as it is. on top of that doctors prescribe the stuff to people for certain things. i had a really short friend in high school on my team and his doc prescribed it to him so he could grow taller. the shit worked and now i'm wondering if he suffered any ill effects he didn't tell us about.

How long is a piece of string?

It will be variable from person to person, some people can use quite a high dose and not have any issues with bone growth or insulin insensitivity, and we have had people on this site report that they had to have surgery for jaw reduction on 4 IUs/day.

Growth hormone is very useful in a number of clinical conditions, such as failure to grow.

How medics use hGH is different than how bodybuilders use hGH.

From the two BBers that I know who developed it during cycle, they said that it got better when they came off the GH cycle, however, they found they were more prone to insulin intolerance the next time they used it.

It can cause temporary hyperglycemia but not diabetes, at least in the short run (a few months).
HGH is one of the hormones released in response to hypoglycemia (to increase glucose levels).
Insulin challange test is sometimes used to see natural secretion of HGH.
It is IGF level in the blood that is more reliable indicator of HGH secretion.

So theoretically, high IGF/HGH levels can decrease insulin secretion, and can cause hyperglycemia.

It probably can't cause diabetes, at least in the short run, because there is no damage to pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin.

thanks for you're insight Tat. it's good to hear that it isn't a permanent condition. i guess when the time comes in the future i'll find out how i react myself.

edit:

is this common and what are the implications?

Most people who have growth-hormone-secreting tumors do have hyperglycemia. But they also make massive amounts of HGH.
Smaller doses used over a few months are highly unlikely to cause diabetes.
If any of your parents or sublings have DM type II, then your chance of developing DM is about 30%.
If I have a family history, then I would be more careful.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't advocating the use of slin at all and your attitude here is spot on.

also HGH if you have or have had Dormant cells that could be deemed cancerous but are not at the time,HGH may activate them in becomming active.
But! as always...........everyone is different!

HGH in large dosages and not following the correct protocal has been said to cause your body to have insilin resistance issues, they are more to the Type II diabetis than Type I. I have heard and read of people becoming Type II diabetic, however after time and no Gh they do return to normal. The cause of this is beleived to be not following simple proceedures.
You need to wait an hour after eating before taking GH. An empty stomach is best. You should also wait atleast 1/2 hour after taking GH before you eat any sugars!!!
