Those far cry commercials and trailers......were those pc graphics or console?? I'm "assuming" it's the pc version.....but I'd love to know if there's any comparison shots out there of what it looks like on high with a pc vs. what it's going to look like on the consoles. Whatever they are, those shos I'm seeing on xplay are the best graphics I've ever seen in a videogame hands down......ridiculous!!!

If you consider PS-III or X-box a console that will have a higher resolution, higher refresh rate and greater pixel count than a pc can at 1/3rd the cost.

This is the only game I care to get this holiday season. Tracking down actual pc/console comparisons is tough but you can go to sites and just manually compare each.

Actually though it looks like they just use the same pics for each version. They seem to be pushing the console versions more (understandable...$$)

The designer had this to say.

Far Cry 2 designer, Peter Redding has refuted the notion that the PC version will be better than either the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 editions.

Whilst running through the PC demonstration at Play.com Live he said:

We’re not changing any aspect of the game, all the same content will be in console versions that you’ve seen here; all the same systems and all the same mechanics.

He added:

The expectation is that for someone playing on a really good high-end PC, it is going to be amazing. But the console version is going to be fantastic.

First review sounds promising-

PCGamer voted Far cry 2 a "Wild" 94% quoting its pros were Beautiful, Free roaming and Utterly Absorbing, and its cons were, its not a linear shooter, its not a prescribed story and its not going to let you go !

The basis of Far Cry 2's story telling: Characters and situations are swapped via a software author, its responding to choices made by you the player. Its something that's been on the cards for some time - mostly in research projects - but this is the first high-profile game to use it.
Its nothing less than a revelation. What makes this procedural storytelling cool isn't that you get to play the game lots of times, and see new things happen, or do things in new ways, Its not even that it gives you stories to share, situations to compare with your friends. Its that the game just works and responds to your successes, failures and fuckups.
If you don't like what a guy is asking you to do, then don't do it... If you really like one of your buddies, you stick with him. When the situations force choices on you... By God, its incredible

I'm getting it for PC of course, and expect it to be less demanding than Crysis: Warhead. If you can get solid frames in that on medium (mainstream) you should be able to get optimal performance in Far Cry 2 on high at least, maybe even bump it up to very high. I've read it takes advantage of quad cores, something like 30% better performance over dual cores.

October 21st, hell yeah.

you do know that even a middle of the road pc will dominate either console, right? And a high end one will blow them out of the water.

what's odd is that it looks an order of magnitude better than crysis....:whatever:

anyway......that trailer looked amazing, but I can't imagine that there's not going to be "high" settings for the pc version that will turn everything on and make it look ridiculous. The 360 and ps3 are not good on the AA and AF, so even medium settings on a pc should elevate the graphics beyond the consoles. And that's scary seeing how good those console shots just looked.

They built the Dunia engine from the ground up mostly, something like only 3% of the original Far Cry engine was used. The fact that it's running simultaneously on each system, and in some cases looks better than Crysis is testament to the power of efficient coding.
And yeah, even medium settings on PC will equal or surpass consoles. I say low settings will be roughly comparable to the console versions.
Anyone who has a PC with at least an 8600GT or ATI X1800XL Pro would be foolish to get it for a console, especially considering the limited edition PC version still only costs $50 with a preorder.

No i thought vice versa well I guess is you compare a $3,500 pc to a console but how many are going to shell out that? I quite playing video games when my 4yo jumped up and down on my new PS-2 like 2 months after they came out! Damn!!!

A $3,500 PC won't run Crysis much better than one a fraction of the price. A sub-$1000 PC can run Crysis Warhead maxed out. Anything after that and the cost far outweighs any performance gains you'll get with the current technology.

I'm not sold on crysis running on high with a sub 1k pc.....I have to see it to beleive it. I mean it was pretty much a proven fact that the 8800's even in SLI couldn't "max" crysis out. I thought I read even the 9800's couldn't do it unless you doubled or even tripled them. Now by running I mean more than 30 FPS "consistently". Some of those setups could run crysis most of the game over 30fps until you had to fight more than a couple enemies at once. I saw real bad slowdown even with some pretty serious firepower under the hood. Can the new 280's even run crysis "all out"??
