would you take this personally? or... another office thread.

stilleto

ELITE MENTOR
EF VIP
so right now, i share a large sunny office with the VP of sales. I call him "grumpy", because he's super grumpy but not to me. to me he's nice and we laugh and have a good time. I'm rather quiet, and he talks to himself ALL day. it doesn't bother me... i've gotten used to ignoring him. because he's head of sales and i'm head of marketing, we sometimes work together, but our jobs are different enough so that if i need to talk to someone i supervise, it doesn't matter if grumpy is in the room. we give eachother privacy.

So today I was in the CEO's office and he said that when they get it cleaned out, they want me to have this private office (it's small) that will be available.
I said I didn't mind sharing an office with grumpy. they said, "well... he needs his alone time".

do you think:
a. I annoy him? i don't see how i can. i'm quiet and clean and he talks to me throughout the day without me starting the conversation. we have some private jokes and stuff- i know he likes me.

b. they are honoring me by giving me my own office, since the only ones that have their own is the CEO, the Controller, and the President?

c. i'm over thinking this and making myself crazy?

3.

Dont take it personally. Good news is you can flick your bean in your new private office.

Let me repeat that.......anyone who has recently gotten a new office can flick their bean in it.......and send me pictures.

ur bewbs are distracting him and his production is down as a result. . .

honestly? if i had to guess, i would say the company has decided that he is less productive while sharing an office. . .they're moving you out. . .he had nothing to do with it. . .just a hunch. . .

You may be the nicest, cutest, cleanest, most easy going office mate - but its still not like having your own office.

so you think grumpy said, "hey, i want my own office back!"
or do you think they said, "you know what? lets give stilleto her own office! she deserves it!" and didn't realize they were moving me into a walk in closet.

(maybe bigger than that, but not much).

i do like the idea of flicking the bean at work though.

hmm. i guess. he seems to be pretty productive.
but maybe they heard us talking or something and think we would be better in our own offices (which is funny 'cause grumpy is like 70 years old.)

This is my take, people who talk to themselves are conscious of the fact that they talk to themselves, but most of us are pretty contradictory in alot of our behaviors, so even though it bothers him to talk to himself, like I bet he doesn't really enjoy hearing his own voice in his head and then echoed through soundwaves back into his head, he does it because he is compelled to do so for a variety of interrelated reasons, that said, he probably got tired of feeling like he bothers u with his incessant self talk, and doesn't wanna feel so -weird- in the sense that he becomes self conscious of this behavior and how it effects u and how u perceive him, someone who talks to themselves alot is not gonna be gregarious to other peeps because their mind is flooded with so many thoughts, which only leads to a negative disposition cause thats what compulsive thinking does... so repetitive and no real -space- for new thoughts or creative inspiration... we all need creativity in our lives... so yeah, thats my take, if you are quiet, respectful, and generally affable, which u are, then he has nothing but mad respect for you and if anything has nothing to do with you, but rather how self conscious makes him feel. I dunno... my take anywayz.

maybe grumpy's on his way out...this is his last chance...if he doesn't shake-a-leg he's out the door. . .

lol, no no. he does a great job. we have the most productive, efficient, and cool office.

the only other thing I can think of is that EVERYONE stops to talk to us. either him, or me, either about golf or sports or politics or sales (him) or animals, jewelry, clothing, marketing (me). maybe it's become too social.

it might be nice, yes. right now, i have grumpy's artwork on my walls (yuck).

the office i'm getting is pink though. i'm painting that shit.

i highly doubt that if he inquired about having his own office that it had anything to do with him not liking you or being bothered by you.like you said, how could he feel that way. but its still always better to have your own office regardless
so maybe he said " so, is there any chance of me having my own office again in the near future? i mean, stilleto is a hot piece of ass and all but i have a hard time concentrating with her bewbs in the room"

that's probably it.

thanks smuf!!!

Why do you take anything personally at work? It's just like EF. A bunch of drunks posting about each others fantastic lives and bitching about politics.

Chipper today are we?
j/k
Ender, I like you, thats personal
I think you rock, thats personal
I like alot of people here -privado- spanish
Interacting with people is not invigorating, fun, or just enjoyable if their is not a degree of it being -personal-
Degrees brah...
I get what you are sayin, and agree to a certain point.
However, I hate when peeps say to me don't take this personally, or don't get mad, or don't take this the wrong way...
Basically saying listen I don't care, so you shouldn't either...

I'm not saying U are saying this... but yeah, thats the overall message I kinda disdain...
that said, hell yeah, I can be pretty thoughtless bout this too.

He hates your guts, sorry.

Overnight I decided i don't care why, but i totally want my own office. and i'm leaving it pink. It has a nice big desk but nothing on the window so i'm putting curtains up and a painting on the walls. and a lamp.

also, today grumpy and I are organizing a company picnic. we decided to sneak in beer.
