continue with school or stay at union job?

Sup guys, its been a while cus I've been super busy with work, school and kids. Everything is good in life , kids are healthy, and my relationship is better but I'm at a crossroads

I just got accepted to Sac State and I want to pursue being a Physical Therapist. I need 62 units until I can apply for DPT which is a 3 year program. Once I finish that I'll be a licensed physical therapist.

Or I can stay at my union job. Its a warehouse job for a grocery store all throughout California.WE max out at 23/hr, and if you work harder you can make up to 28/hr. Its union so we have pension, and we also have awesome health benefits that are free except for $10 copays.

The problem is if I want to continue with school I will need to quit my job because my work schedule will not allow me to go to school since I am on call. I still get 40+ hours but the date aren't set. But if I quit I'll have to find part time job at nights to help pay bills. But in the end I'll make more as a PT and I'd love what I do. I feel this current job is holding me back from school , but I'm also getting 20/hr with benefits, and I'll get a dollar raise 3 more times within 2 years.

I just feel like I'm smart enough to not be working at a warehouse job. Is it smart to live off school loans though?

Hope everyone's doing good

The idea of going back to school is good. The fact that you're looking for a medical professional degree is even better.

Here are my thoughts on PT:

1) Demographics favor your profession. We have an aging population that is increasingly more active and expects to be active longer.

2) BarryCare gives everybody insurance, so I'd expect independent contractors popping up everywhere trying to get some gubment cheese. Imagine a young, strapping young PT giving a little old lady some attention in the name of "therapy". She'll wave that insurance card in everyone's face util BarryCare gives her more visits.

Here's what's hurting you:

1) They may change the rules whereby doctors can no longer own PT. It is estimated that 50% of all PT is ordered by and provided by the same physician's taxpayer ID number. If they change those rules, the PT industry will implode for a few years.

2) They are doing bundled payments to physicians and hospitals on a small but growing basis. That means instead of buying all the services for a hip or knee replacement by individual service, they now give the hospital or doctor a lump payment and make them manage the spend. In both instances, the first thing they cut is PT, because that's where the easiest savings can be found.

So specifically for PT... it's going to be a bumpy, risky ride. Good luck!

Good to see you back bro! Can't you live off all the silver you bought and the apricot seed biz on eBay while you go to school?

I would say go back to school man...it might be tough for awhile, but with the union job you aren't really going anywhere...have you thought about taking something other than physical therapist? how much do they make? Anyways man, good to see you back! Glad is a good bro

PT will barely pay you more than the union job at the end of the day. Not in this part of the world anyway.

My wife is a personal trainer at a physical therapy shop. Some of the PT do personal training at lunch and after work to try and make enough to get by.

Don't let Vanderpublican dissuade you. Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have pretended to have on the Intarwebz.

A bunch of solid advice from some solid people, i really appreciate it

Actually my bro is about to buy the place he buys all the seeds from, so if that happened i could work there and fit my schedule around school but id make less but i know he'd pay me at least 15/hr which will be enough including the grants and loans I would get. I would basically package all the seeds to get shipped

Silver is low right now time to BUY!

PT Pros:
Better pay
Better hours (9-5)
More respect
More networking and interaction with people

Union job Pros:
4 days a week (4 10hr shifts)
Pension (5 years = guaranteed pension when im older, like 500/yr)
Every year after 5 years my pension goes up about 100/month. So 10 years is 1000/month, 20 years is 2000/month
Seniority (Already have about 20-25 people under me)

I think depending on what I can work around school, I will keep going to school part time. I dont want to quit my union job unless I know I'm guaranteed something better. The pay is too good for this economy right now. Going to school full time seems unrealistic right now since I have to do good in my classes, not just get C's and B's. I need to be competitive. If I dont end up going to a DPT program, I will at least have a bachelors in Exercise Science/Therapeutic Rehab

The odds that the union job will be there until you retire are very slim. If you have a degree you will be much more versatile. If PT is something you would enjoy, then go in that direction. Whatever you do, if you love it, you will rise to the top of your profession. A job you love should be your goal.

Dude, have you ever thought about modeling part time. Just do a google search for agencies in your area and contact someone with a pic I'm sure you'd get picked up bro.

I was randomly out at a bar one night years ago and some chick approached me saying she was a modeling agent and wanted to meet with me. I'm like wtf really? Totally out of the blue, so if I can randomly get discovered at a bar, if you pursue it you'd be picked up easy bro.

Very true. And it could get really bumpy soon too.

Go back to school and do g4p porn on the side. Your seniority isn't great at the job. One decent sized layoff and you'll be in the unemployment line. A pt is a lot more prestigious than a warehouse worker. Also is part time school an option? Or online. Also I know the whole on call scenario as I'm living it everyday at my job but I love what I do. Hang I. There and do what's best for all of you.

Go back to school bro and try and pick up some part time work...

gay4pay are hiring fluffers, talk to pick.

I would go back to school if I were you. A little sacrifice to do something you love for the rest of your life is worth it. If you don't do it you'll regret it for sure

I didn't read past the first page but Im going to say something unpopular...unless you have cience credits that are subject to essentially "expire" /you'd have to retake them I vote for going with the job

school will always be there..a job that pays well may not.

this never happened

Hands down, you'll have more choices with that PT degree! Of course it's a gamble to walk away from a secure paycheck, but if you're in your 20s, you have enough time to go with student loans and part time work, and maybe go a little short on lifestyle for awhile in order to get that degree. Having a family complicates it a bit, but some hardship now for a few years, will buy you and family some security and independence later. If you just stay with a union job, you're probably never going to go hungry or homeless, but you won't have much of any chance to do anything bigger either. And there is also the fact that with that degree, you're white collar. Even if you wind up going back to a blue collar job after you finish school while you find the position you really want, you will still be a white collar-educated man. That's a strong self esteem booster, and a helluva great example if you have kids!

We never know where life will take us, so the more possibilities you add, the better…

Can you do both? I know you claim it isn't possible but can you take some classes online that fulfill the basic requirements of your degree? I took a lot of online and weekend classes. As a rule it's always better to have a higher level of skill than rely on union contracts. My father worked 20 years for a company and lost his pension when they went out of business. A warehouse job is far more likely to be outsourced or eliminated by technology as opposed to a PT job.

No doubt...I was training in a Bally's during my college days and a hot blonde walked up to me and asked if she could use my arm....That's how I became a professional arm model.

Due to bad EF programming I couldn't post a reply....but a quick response...
It was a trade publication for archery products....They put a fake tat on my arm that was the company logo and the ad claimed," Put more power in your purchasing." Eventually that arm photo went into the public domain and I saw my arm in a AOL ad...

Professional arm model...they paid me $50.00 for an hour of my time...not bad for a college student. I'm sure my ex wife still brags about it to make herself look better.."I was married to a model..."

Direct your shitty ef programmers to address the quotation issue...

My response to your last post........
Indeed...nobody that matters cares....at least in real life.

Can you run a packet sniff? My ports are wide open. Ping me, ping me hard

Is there any intrusion prevention that would keep me from running a trace route from your front port to the back door? I'll assume you've done a virus scan and there is no need to encapsulate our packets to allow for free unsecured data flow between hosts once the back door is found?

Fuck I'm so hard.

Fuck you're a potty mouth.
I'll have you know I only use secure encrypted connections, I don't just use open source programs or share my damn network you know, its secured through WEP and has a hexadecimal password!

Good day sir! *does system restore to yesterday and turns firewalls back on*

I was just about to spray malicious code in your back door too, it would have overrode all your system resources like a bawse.

If it were me I would quit my job and become a physical therapist. yes it's tough leaving a secure union job that pays good and has good benefits, pension, etc. but the tougher thing to live with is the regret you will have for not following your dreams

Btw Zwhit

FSU will beat Bama in the BCS NC game.

You can write that down

I think so too. I'm glad Oregon got out of the way. title game would've been another dud had they gotten in.

I wouldn't be surprised if bama lost a game before then though.

Other than being a successful entrepreneur...Your best bet is being employed by the federal government.

but wouldnt that damage my chances of being a professional arm model?

i just got all the major corporations logos henna'd onto my left tricep

Thanks guys for all your thoughts, I really would eventually like to be a PT but it depends on how much school I can fit around my current job.

I thin the best situation for me right now is to:

Take 1/2 time to 3/4 time school while still keeping union job
Keep paying debt, 401k, savings
Wait till I either get a set schedule at my union job, or my brother buys the shipping warehouse for seeds
Then go to school full time while I work for my bro since he will be flexible with my schedule

I think this is the best plan. Oh also sinc e I have 2 kids I get to go to Sac State for free, plus get grants. Obviously not the maximum amount unless I go full time. And also a student loan if I want. Just depends on how much I can take without being overwhelmed with work and kids as well.

In my eyes, Id rather sacrifice family time NOW when the boys are still young and not gonna remember much, rather than later and theyre in high school and IM still going to school. I just want to be financially secure and to teach them that they can do it, if I can get my bachelors and become a PT while having 2 kids and working full time they can do whatever they set their minds to as well.

lol@sacraficing your time now...

They're only little once bro, and you'll never get that time or those memories back.

You should've thought about all of these before you had kids. The first one i'll give you as a "shit happens" but jesus christ you got 2 kids and you knew what you were doing.

Man the fuck up, if you wanna sacrifice time to better yourself and your families it needs to be night school.

Its so fucking old its not even funny anymore

by the way our second child wasnt on purpose, her iud fell out so shut the fuck up for once lol jesus christ

if u actually had to go to school and didnt get shit handed to you by daddy, you would know that most classes dedicated to a major arent offered at night

i mean what is man the fuck up supposed to mean? u come off like a arrogant little bitch, telling me to man the fuck up, and expect me to listen and absorb that, learn how to communicate to people lol

ok im done lol

glad,

the only idiot here is you, and you've proven that time and time again. It doesn't matter how anything is communicated to you, because in the end you're going to skip past all the advice that's given to you and make another retarded fucking decision (again, that's been proven by yourself).

I didn't have shit handed to me, and i've worked for everything that I have.

I wasn't talking shit either you ignorant bitch, but your post of "i'd rather sacrifice family time now" was fucking retarded.

Although, I don't know why I'm surprised as everything that comes out of your mouth is some ignorant shit.

Keep living that pipe dream bro. See you again in a few years with another update of your shitty life.

Everything you say is negative and uncalled for, so I could care less what your opinion is anyway. Your only concern is making yourself look cool by talking shit lol. EF Chat is like your playground for you to talk shit and be witty over a keyboard, its pathetic

To say that something I said was fucking retarded? Really? Like I said this is your playground, youre safe behind a keyboard lmao you would never talk as much shit to ppl in real life otherwise youd be in the ER, probably brain dead from all the blows to your dumb ass face

Shit, my old man worked 70 hours a week working 2 jobs through the whole of the 70's. It was when I turned 13 and thought I was a thug that he needed to be there keep me in line.

I like Glad's priorities. Yes, he's giving up the memories but it's what's best for he and his family.

You ARE AN IDIOT.

Time and time again people much older than you with actual life experience have given you solid advice which you've chosen to ignore and then you come back later on with some other fucked up situation that you put yourself in.

So yes, you're fucking retarded. Next time you're in Colorado swing by and I'll be glad to tell you in person.

thx bro, I guess my thought is that I have to sacrifice the memories (not all, but a lot) in order to be there for them when they're older.

I could stay at my warehouse job, have 3 days off a week for the rest of my life, plus vacation days and sick days, but I look at the people that I work with and its like they all got stuck there, and I feel that they only got stuck there because they never tried to do something else. I dont want to be like that, especially when I can make more doing what I love.

I'd say the same shit to your face.

The solid ADVICE I got was personal advice, about my relationship, which no one can say is right or wrong, I just ended up making a personal decision about it, because I believe the father and mother should be in the same house, not divorced like every one else on this fucking website. SO since Id rather try and make it work, instead of leave, Im an idiot? Now that were completely happy with one another? Oh and SD telling me ti get an abortion, thats solid advice?

I dont really know what solid advice i have gotten that I completely ignored, besides my girl situation that ended up working out great.

Thats about all you would ever do is say something to my face, cus any more and this would put you in the ER

lol

again, you're showing how much of an idiot you truly are.

Your physical appearance doesn't mean a fucking thing. I know guys that look exactly like me that are professional trained fighters that would tear you to pieces.

Not to mention you can't go around thinking you're billy badass fighting everyone. You're gonna end up either with felonies (if you don't already have them) or dead.

You obviously still have a lot of growing up to do.

good luck with that.

Yea she does but probably doesnt make enough to cover all our bills, but if i got grants and student loans it would work. Its just a tough decision to leave a job paying 20/hr, 4 days a week not 5.
I'm curious, how are you guys planning to manage daycare for the kids and what about healthcare for all of you?

Satisfaction in your career is incredibly important. When I was young I had to take whatever work I could find to pay the bills and it became a career by accident which kind of sucked the joy out of life ... but I do agree with Miplank about being there for the rugrats. Generally speaking kids hit their teen years and can turn into vipers towards their parents until they get into their 20s, IOW, being around for the high school years ain't so important (just lock up the liquor). They stop needing you or wanting your company unless they want cash or to be driven somewhere from about 12 to 18. Little kids, OTOH, want to play with their parents and be around them. You really only get to enjoy that for such a brief time.

Of course, Glad, you do seem to have a tendency to land butter side up no matter what you do so best of luck.

I get about 1200/month worth of benefits free every month through my job, its one of the best plans out there I guess. Its through Kaiser. MRI's, chemotherapy, surgeries are all free or maybe a $10 copay thats it. So they are really good. We pay 100 a week for daycare right now for the days we both work, and when one of us has an off day we watch the kids so we only need daycare 2x a week.

The thing is that I still get to be around my kids all the time. Today I am with them all day. The only thing that would take me away from my kids isnt school, but going to school while I keep the union job. That would be 40+ hours of work, plus full time school every week. I probably wouldnt do that for more than a couple semesters. Its either I stay at my job and do school part time, or quit my job, work part time, and go to school full time. I dont think I can fit full time school around my work schedule.

I just have to see what the class schedule is for Spring semester, I find out in a couple weeks. Also I will get paid to go to school so tuition and books arent a factor, so it would help out financially if I didnt work

lol well i dont give a fuck what people think of my face obviously thats whay I dont purposely crop it out, from all my rap videos

Maybe I havent taken all your guys advice, but one thing is for sure you have never taken any workout advice, jesus christ grow some fucking muscle. EF should ban you for being so skinny

right, and I don't give a shit about how big or small I am just like you don't care about your busted ass face.

to each his own.

One thing is for sure, I guarantee i'm in better overall health than you are and you're what...early 20's?

You've already fucked yourself up based of the advice you've gotten in the AAS boards.

Nice life bro.

Abortion was solid advice bro. Just because you couldnt seal the deal and get it done doesnt mean its bad. But the problem with abortion is if you dont do it when you have a chance, you will never get that chance again for that time. So you have to throw everything you have into getting herto the clinic to get it done. I dont give a shit how callous that sounds, its the truth. I was your age and knocked up a couple chicks before and I handled my business however uncomfortable it was at the time. And knowing what i know now with hindsight? Still damn glad i talked them into it. My wife had to do the same thing a long time ago and she feels the same way. And now we each got on with life, eventually found each other, married and are very happy. Its just me and her, no ones divorced or has kids or baby daddys/mommas to fuck with for 20 years.

Can't You wait until they are at least school aged? Sounds like you lose money, time, family time and benefits.

right, and I don't give a shit about how big or small I am just like you don't care about your busted ass face.

to each his own.

One thing is for sure, I guarantee i'm in better overall health than you are and you're what...early 20's?

You've already fucked yourself up based of the advice you've gotten in the AAS boards.

Nice life bro.

I could be a model if i wanted to, theyd pay me to get invisalign , with you theyd have to pay for steroids, synthol injections, and reconstructive surgery

But anyway I dont need to talk shit lol, its a waste of time, plus it gets old. I am doing just fine and the only way from here is forward, whatever decision I choose

bro as long as providing the best life possible, by any means, for your family is your top priority, do whatever makes you happy after that.
