Why is strongbow banned

my computer tech got his head/face all fucked up when an ied blew up his humvee in asscrackistan...spent a month in the hospital...then went back to his unit (or whatever you guys call those things)...a week before his return, another marine was killed by an explosive near the same village where my buddy was injured...so, anway, he rejoins his unit and the next week they roll up on the same village and start taking small arms and rpg fire, the village gets declared "hot" and they go door-to-door and kill everyone...and the way he tells a story like that is just so...odd...it's just a "story"...there's no chest-thumping or even any emotion to it...he just looks you in the eye and tells you what happened...i mean, dang, my wife is more animated most days when she's telling me about her day teaching middle school math...it's fucking eerie...you motherfuckers are stone cold...and i guess i'm a little bit envious.

It's nothing to be envied. My whole family treats me differently now and even my own mother act akwardly when I'm around. I'm sure it will wear off eventually, but it's still bullshit that Hollywood has blown things so out of proportion that everyone thinks everyone goes all Call of Duty on a daily basis on a deployment. I spent most of my deployments bored to fucking tears with the occasional fire fight.

Your tech sounds like the real deal. The ones who've been in the most shit won't instigate the conversation about it. It's mostly like supply admin and fuckin desk jockeys that come home and tell everyone they saved a whole town of innocent civilians and was the only survivor in their unit...

But yes, when pressed, we will tell you straight to your face what it is really like. It isn't glorious or anything, just a unique job.

i didn't mean the job necessarily, so much as the attitude that you learn while you're on the job...killing people for a living isn't an envious thing...a necessity? yes. but, something to be celebrated? nah. my buddy had a hell of a time matriculating back into society...there have been a number of bumps and scrapes along the way...he's a just a super dude, though, and he's done a pretty good job getting normal again imho.

Oh ok, I see what you mean. It makes you not give a shit about anything, though. That part has created problems between my wife and I, being that she is pregnant. Everything is a big deal to her, and I could give a shit less if it isn't life threatening.

Transitioning back is difficult, because now all of a sudden you're surrounded by undisciplined assholes who piss you off, and the worst part is you can't bitch slap them anymore. Generally speaking of course, not everyone is a scumbag, but for about the first year and a half it sure seems like it. I was never force, so I couldn't imagine how much more difficult that would be. I had a tough enough time just being regular 0331..

oh, i don't even bother bitching to him about some bullshit problem i'm having...it's a fucking waste of time...he's a very polite dude, so he makes like he's listening and feeling your pain but, if you look real close, you can see his eyes glassing over in about 10 seconds...his idea of what's important/urgent is a WHOLE LOT different than mine :lmao:
