My wife dropped her iPhone and shattered the screen. Made an appointment at the genius bar for today. Showed up and the guy took a look at it and told me that since it was physical damage it wasn't covered and cost like $150 to replace the screen. I already figured that and just wanted it fixed so I told him it wasn't a big deal as I understood it was our fault. He tells me he will brb, and comes out with a brand new iPhone and gives it to us free of charge.


Fuck yeah!
 
They have gotten a lot better with their return policies.
They are (for now atleast) Head and shoulders above the rest.
 
Ummm...you are paying $600.00 for a $150.00 phone...:) They should have given you a reach around with your iphone purchase while they broke you down like a shotgun and made you squeal like a pig.

FYI, Samsung just overtook Apple as the worlds largest seller of smart phones.

Are you surprised at Samsung overtaking Apple? Samsung has 900 types of phones while Apple has 3. The worst part is that it's pretty close regardless.

As for $600 for a $178 phone, I think that the term is markup.

I've been with Verizon for 11 years...contracts don't mean shit. Every phone is expensive out of contract.

And you're right about Samsung having a lot of phones. My mom has one of the newer ones and it's a pos in comparison to my iPhone.

How much did you pay for your first iphone?

Apple's business model has always been about up front cost and exclusivity; It's the Coach bag of technology. I'm knot hating on their marketing model, it's brilliant for a niche, but technology is very cheap to produce after the first few production runs...swapping a chip and improving the camera only to sell something marginally better than your last production run...but at a dramatic increase in profitability per unit....priceless.

Only time will tell how Apple will do after the death of the Versace of technology... Steve Jobs made technology a fashion statement...

OK, so you weren't an iphone fanboy and purchased one when it was first introduced (AT&T). Probably a good decision with RIM because they will probably be dead in a year.

Chinese companies are selling unlicensed Apple products for cheap...That's what happens when you outsource production to China. :)

yep. based on what my friends who live there and do business there have told me, the chinese are notorious for taking your idea and replicating it. that's why he said whenever you do business in China, NEVER give them all the information or access to replicate your product. they're not a strong entrepreneurial culture but they can take a business model and replicate it and mass produce it easily. you always have to have some sort of value so they "need you". especially due to the fact a chinese person HAS to own the business (i.e. you need a chinese partner). also i.e. that chinese person can say fuck you, and cut you out without consequence

Indeed, if you want to do business in China you are required to have a "partner" with which you are required to share trade secrets that are supposed to remain secret. There was a big how do you do with US Airline manufacturers moving production to China and having the avionics move to the military via "partners." Of course civilian avionics aren't directly capable of being militarized but they would certainly shorten the R&D time while being directly applicable to air refueling to increase the projection power of the Chinese military.

I've owned both and I like the iphone better because it is simple and smooth. I like simple on a phone. I shouldn't have said the best because in many ways it is not the best.
 
I've owned every single iPhone up to date and will never go back. I bought my 4 without a contract since I'm running tmobile and it cost me 400 on CL. Not bad..

i had a 3.. changed service and gave the droid a try.. took it back 5 days, the controls were just not as easy to learn and use..

i'm on the new platform now.. 4

I've done an iPhone, iPhone 3G, Droid X and iPhone 4.

I reaaaaaally tried the Droid X and it just plain sucked. I'm proud of myself for being in the apple store and resisting the 4S upgrade.

Jon Stewart did a segment about the iphone..when it was first released...the crux of the segment... he loved to use it for surfing the net but he had a verizon phone to make phone calls.

Personally, I have a dumb phone because I just need a phone that makes a call and if I really needed to surf the web "on the go" I would get a netbook. Touch screens and tiny keyboards/screens are just annoying...

What is best for you may not be what is best for everyone else :) Just because someone makes a choice different from yours does not make it inferior. :p

Coach purses are high quality and held in high esteem but I've never felt the need to buy a man purse...I promote free markets and if someone wants to pay six times the price for a laptop... more power to them; There is a line between function and vanity...
