First Night without Lunesta Sucks!

mrplunkey

New member
I'm tired of needing it to sleep.

First night without it and I'm going strong at 1:44am.

Let me know if you wanna play with my balls during your sleepless nights to cum.

Deflating those suckers and shipping is ez, but you don't have to wait to get a pair of balls! You'll definitely notice the difference; with your own set, you can confidently store em away and whip em out whenever you feel like it!

I hope you get some balls soon mr.plunky simmons! You will like em, especially when you play with em, and you'll definitely enjoy others playing with em along with you!

I've been fuct since the clocks went forward (moreso than usual)....but still refusing to take sleep meds. I'm getting by with 6.5hrs, but really need to get in a solid 7.5 or 8 sometime soon.

I slept in about three blocks of 20-30 minutes last night.

That's why I've got to get rid of Lunesta. I've been using it as a crutch. And crutches are bad.

Pudds took that Ambien after all!

Google sleep hygiene. Most people, particularly type As, lead stressed out lives that puts sleep, which is actually critically important to life, on the absolute bottom of their lists of priorities. You have to approach sleep, the time leading up to it, your sleeping environment, like anything else that's important in your life, you make time for it, you prepare for it.

Once humans get past a certain age the whole being able to hit the pillow and pass out like we did when we were kids generally is over (not for everyone, and may those snoozing bastards rot in hell).

Oh, yeah, I forgot something, screw you and your ivory tower, Plunk -- just trying to be consistent.

lol, makes sense. I will definitely google this. I hope you are feeling better Musclemom.

lol...I can still pass out when I hit the pillow as long as I have done my "checks"....I've checked to be sure the garage door is shut..I've locked all the doors..the alarm is on and the living room light is on..plus I have to sleep with the tv on..

:D

That is exactly where I messed up.

I used to have a decent ritual.

- No work for 1-1.5 hours before bed
- No alcohol/food 1-1.5 hours before bed
- No exercise 1-1.5 hours before bed
- Pitch black room
- Read a fairly boring book (i.e. WW2 documentary) before sleep

But when I started using a CPAP machine, I couldn't fall asleep. So I started taking Lunesta. Then I realized that I could work right up to bedtime, so I started using Lunesta as a crutch. I also discovered I could use it to change time zones more easily. This last China trip was a breeze.

But before you know it, I'm taking a fairly large dose seven days a week. And one of the side effects is a headache, which I used to believe was sinus-related -- but I didn't have an infection.

So it's no more Lunesta for me, except under extraordinary circumstances. Once again, the old adage is true: "With every pill is some poison."

Seriously, try getting hooked on something for 10+ years because you lost the ability to sleep naturally (I started having trouble sleeping in the end of my last marriage and it's still fucked up).

Getting used to the CPAP is tough, I get that. But here's the WEIRD thing, once you DO get used to it, you'll have trouble falling/staying asleep without it.

When I first moved in with my current husband he was a true misery to sleep with (he snores, has apnea -- just got his CPAP this July -- and has sleep movement disorder). My health went to shit because, in hindsight, I was waking up 20+ times a night (maybe more). Anyway, I started using foam ear plugs, 33+ dB. Now he's using the CPAP which has eliminated all of his funkitude while he sleeps, but I've discovered if I DON'T put the plugs in (which really aren't terribly comfortable after 8 hours) I wake up constantly.

Re-establish your old routine, and when you'd normally close the book and turn the lights off, you just add putting on the fighter pilot mask :whatever: It takes a little time, but you're going to start feeling so much better if you'll just hang in there. You might need to play some sleeping sounds (meditational CDs or something else) I know those masks virtually force your eyes closed. My husband lost weight without doing anything other than just [finally] using his CPAP for a month straight.

I don't know what to tell you about jet lag. Avoid it as much as possible is the only solution.

Good luck, capitalist scum :D

I can totally see that happening.

I may save a few lunesta solely for time zone changes. I had been prescribed up to 6 mg/night (which would knock-down a horse). Hopefully using it only 4-8 times/month will allow me to get by with 1/2 or even 1/4 of that.

i've never had trouble falling asleep...i work so hard most of the time that i literally rarely remember falling asleep at night...my head hits the pillow, i say a couple of our fathers and couple of hail marys and before i'm done, i'm out like a light...i've had some extremely stressful periods in my life too, but it's never affected my sleep...this time of the year, i only get about 4 hours a night and i gotta make the most of it, thank God i don't have trouble sleeping.

on another note, i've never had a headache either...ever...don't have a clue what one feels like.

Falling asleep is no issue for me. Staying asleep is the sucky part. I generally wake up around 3 am. Can't get back to sleep, go watch tv, fall back asleep at 5:30, get up at 6:30 and feel like I have had 1 hr of sleep.

Never take the pills, just live with it. I gave up coffee this week hoping to make it better but so far, no go. I have suffered for two days with a pounding coffee withdrawel headache for no reason!!!

Life is not worth living w/o that morning cup of joe...I look foward to that when I go to bed :)

I hear you but it just esculates for me. Next thing you know I need another one around 10 am and then after lunch and then I have to have one around 5 pm or I am going to fall asleep around 7 pm. Walking around sleepy with a caffiene headache all day.

Finally I just have to go cold turkey to get it all out of my system and always feel better once I do. I can see how drug addicts get so messed up.

yeah...I drink it all morning pretty much. Good luck kicking the habit. When I was pregnant I did limit it to one measured cup a day..moderation is good with all things..even coffee :)

I have two cups in a day and I'm whirling like a top, seriously.

I have one cup, once in a while, doesn't wake me up so much as make me move a little faster (probably partly due to the fact I abused caffeine, ephedra and other diet stimulants for nearly 20 years).

I am on day 5 with no coffee so I pretty much have it out of my system. If I get one good night sleep, I will be good to go. Part of the problem I am kicking coffee and doing a bit of jet lag (5 hr time difference) at the same time.

Probably not a good mix.

i drink at least 10 cups a day...no shit...i can't remember the last time i peed and it didn't smell like coffee :)

seriously?

do you have any teeth left?

or adrenal glands?

my teeth are beautiful...the hygenist always asks me if i've been using whitestrips because they're so dang pearly...and, i only have one cavity...in a wisdom tooth that had a soft center...had it filled when i was like 22-ish...haven't had one before or since.

and, adrenal glands? i'm 46 y/o and i sit behind a desk all day...do i even need those??

I sleep 9 hours every night.
I really need it to function properly and be in a good state of mind.
My old job gave me little sleep, working on someone else's schedule always got to me.

Here's the other killer for me. If I doze-off for a 20ish minute nap, I wake up feeling great and can go like mad for at least another six hours.

That really sucks if I do one of those catnaps around 6:30-7:30 at night.

Ambien has made me it's psychological bottom

couldn't even consider trying to sleep without it now ... and with the 12.5 CR's I still only sleep about 5 hours

fml!

again

After years and years of trouble falling to sleep, I finally got fed up with staring at the ceiling for hours every night and talked my doctor into giving me a scrip for a sleep aid a couple of months ago. He suggested Ambien and I've been pleased with it. I don't know if I'm dependent on it, but I don't really care, I never had good sleep patterns before so I don't have a healthy baseline for comparison.

I have that problem. I can not sit down and watch tv in the evening because it puts me to sleep then I wake up at 10 pm and am up for the rest of the night.

billfred - i quit caffeine over a yr ago and its been great. I now wake up every morning totally alert and wide awake.
what?!? why didn't you tell me? I thought you took all kinds of pills and drank all kinds of caffeine. How can you be more awake without it?

I almost got on ambien until this girl scared me about not being able to sleep without it now. I guess it's common. I take benadryl though and can't say I'm not semi dependent on that as well.

I couldn't sleep before I got Ambien, so it matters little to me if I can't sleep without it.

I'd just watch closely regarding dosing. The first three mgs worked great for me with no side effects. Eventually six mgs didn't work so well, but the side effects worked better than ever. That's how it gets you -- sides don't diminish while effects do.

I'm not aware of any sides at present, apart from not dreading bedtime anymore. I've been taking 1/2 of a generic Ambien tab every night for two months, how long did it take for you before you had to start increasing the dose?

I started with 3mg and after a few months started taking and extra only when I really needed to crash. By 9 months or so, it was always 6mg.

benadryl interferes with your sleep phases and gives you shitty sleep quality

Yep. It'll knock me out and I'll sleep for 9 hrs but I wake up feeling like I got 2 hrs. Gives you a bit of a hangover too. I'll feel like my muscles are still sleeping until I drag myself out of bed and get a glass of water.

I typically sleep through the night 10:30-6:30am
My only issue is I wake up with a clenched jaw(stress?) and often a slight headache, and even some shortness of breath. I think I'm not getting full REM sleep and may need a sleep study done to be honest. I'm not tired all day, but I don't feel right when I wake up for at least 20-30 mins.

Get your dentist to make you up an oral appliance ASAP. The jaw clenching is causing the headache, but it can have longer ranging impacts (potentially cause TMJ or crack your teeth).

Sounds like you're seriously stressed, BTW.

I'm genuinely sorry to hear that and I mean that. I also relate so believe me when I tell you, you've got to find a way to decompress or you're going to implode and not be any good for anyone, not to mention that stress is only contributing to health issues and potentially exacerbating them.

When your stress spills over into your sleep you've gotten yourself into a real shit and a sweat. You must let go of shit, even if you only put it down at bedtime. We have something that we always say just before we enter a ritual, "Put any cares and worries of your mundane life aside, they will be waiting for you when you return." Find a way to do that, to set your concerns aside temporarily. If that means making some lists or something, whatever it takes. You can't do it all at once. Perhaps consider something like meditation or yoga or prayer?

I hope you get some relief, Ortiz. But really, get the dental appliance (even if you get a generic one from a drug store or online) until the jaw clenching lets up. I've heard of people's teeth literally disintegrating and then you will have another problem, and it's causing your headaches and probably the rotten way you feel in the morning in general.

You're totally right, I had a mouth guard and it never fit properly from years back. Recently bought a sports one but it's way too big to sleep with. The latest clenching didn't start until about a year and a half ago when diagnosing and dealing with my daughters condition, then my wife lost our 2nd child @ 6 months. Even with health insurance the medical bills basically sucked me dry. Health insurance my arse.
thanks for your concern
I have thought of meditating or yoga, I'm just a procrastinator.

I can take a double-dose of benadryl and go to the gym. It wires me.

Diphenhydramine and doxylamine have a paradoxical effect at higher doses...

I hear ya pick, I was taking double doses of ambien and ended up running out a week early. I ended up doing the wake for 5 mins and sleep for 20 for the whole last week.

I'm wound tighter than a drum. The whole world seems sit directly on my shoulders with work/family/health/finances,

That's me to the tee the past few months.

I've been in boarderline full blown anxiety attack mode here lately. I had my DOT physical this past week and my BP was 166/88. WTF??? I'm not on cycle or any stimulants.

I have a Drs appointment next week to see what the fuck is wrong me. I've been healthy all my life and now it's like my shit is going downhill.

My sleep is rather shitty too. When I finally fall asleep I'm out, but many nights my mind races and I just lay there worrying about shit that doesn't matter even though im exhausted.

I see a beta blocker, xannie, ambien combo in my near future. I generally hate meds, but I might not have a choice. The panic/helpless feeling is unlike anything I've ever experienced and it has really scared the shit out of me.

any of you insomniacs ever try GABA paired with lysine? For some people it's a pretty effective combo.

If my condition tests the efficacy of a combination of both benzodizepine and nonbenzodiazepine hypnotics as well as SSRI class antidepressants ... I doubt seriously a concawktion of amino acids, herbal teas, lavender bubble bathes, or Clay Aiken ballads wood do the trick.

just sayin'

I'm on night three without Lunesta. Still not sleeping well, but I'm getting 3ish blocks of two hours each per night.

I may add back some ZMA or other herbal supplement within the next day or so.

what?!? why didn't you tell me? I thought you took all kinds of pills and drank all kinds of caffeine. How can you be more awake without it?

Branny, you left for a while LOL you apparently missed a lot

Yeah I was always a caffeine and stimulant whore. SInce like 2001 I was abusing stims in one way or another.

I had enormous stress from my previous job and I developed reflux real bad. Coughing gagging just plain miserable. By this time I had stopped taking the pill form of stims and was just having caffeinated pop and one cup of coffee a day. So, I stopped that altogether and had nasty withdrawal for about a week where I felt like death and had the flu. Once that was over with, I noticed I would wake up in the morning and not feel groggy at all (mind you, I sleep like a champ, always have, at least 7.5-8 hrs a night sometimes more).

It's been great. I never get that feeling anymore where I'm like Man I need a cup of coffee to get through the day/morning anymore. Well, with the exception of the first 3 months of pregnancy, I was getting tired all the time but obviously not because of lack of caffeine. Whoremoans bro. Whoremoans.

Well to be fair, the JNC7 would suggest starting an ACEI/HCTZ combo (given that he likely wouldn't appreciate the wet noodle wiener if I started him on a cheap Bblocker)

That's what the 1g of test/week is for.

I have never had a problem sleeping. Even with a 1-1.5 hour nap each day.

Last summer I did cut out all caffiene and my sleep is a ton better. So is my energy all day too. No more Diet Cokes, pre workout supps, etc.. When I sleep it is more restful. But then again, when I was on the caff-jig, I never had problems being tired the next day or falling asleep.

I only use ambien for long plane rides.

That's exactly where I'm trying to go. I don't take caffeine or pre-workout supps after 11:00am, but eliminating at least the caffeine would be much better.

My str9.6-ness is the only thing that lets me get the 2ish hours of sleep that I do.

If I were churning Johns at Cutters like you do, I wouldn't be able to sleep at all!

this weekend I turned the alarm off and slept approx 8.5-9 hours

hell to pay tomorrow when the alarm goes off at 5:15 :(

One week mark!

Side effects completely gone, but I wake-up around 3:00am and have a really hard time falling back asleep.

but you're getting more sleep, right?

Better, but still not that good.

I'll sleep from around 11:00 till 2:00 and wake up. Then it takes another good hour and I'll sleep from 3:00 till around 6:30.

The best I've done in a row so far was just over four hours.

Hang in there, Plunk. It's very similar to what my husband went through.

It takes at least a month to really get used to the equipment. By the time you're getting 4 to 5 hours you're starting to really benefit.

picked up a new dental mouthguard today so we'll see how it goes

how's it going?
is it a pain to sleep with?

i'm getting one too. I'm not sure what insurance will pay but dentist said it was close to $500. Seems ridiculously expensive but worth it so I don't grind my teeth to dust.

trouble sleeping is getting to me too.
i take 1/2 an ativan twice/week lately. Maybe took half once/mth before.
:worried:

I'm afraid to take much of anything now. I'm trying to cut-back on caffeine and I've completely cut-out preworkout supps.

olololololstr8! @ 6:30

I'm sitting at my desk by 6:00

I used to sleep around 10:00PM (or before) and not move once in the night until around 4:15AM feeling completely rested.

I think my clock is trying to get me up early, but it's doing it around 2:00am-3:00am.
