low sodium foods

I suffer from water retention and the doctor told me to stay away from foods with high sodium content, which ones are those?

Amazingly google (strange that) provides you with a list if you ask it:

High-Sodium Foods:

  • Smoked, cured, salted or canned meat, fish or poultry including bacon, cold cuts, ham, frankfurters, sausage, sardines, caviar and anchovies.
  • Frozen breaded meats and dinners, such as burritos and pizza.
  • Canned entrees, such as ravioli, spam and chili.
  • Salted nuts.
  • Beans canned with salt added.

You are well covered above. Just avoid everything that was not prepared by you. In most of the pre-cooked foods they put a shitload of salt to make it taste good. Also, make sure to drink more water if you want to reduce water retention.

If you stick with single ingredient foods - there is no sodium.

There is only sodium in process foods - things in a box or a can.

If you are eating the foods you should be eating - fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, you don't have to watch your sodium intake since none of those foods have sodium added!

You want to base your diet around whole foods like lean meats, fruits, veggies, complex carbs, good fats. If you stay away from processed foods like processed deli meats and anything in a box you are already in good shape. Shop the perimeter of a grocery store and stay away from the middle aisles.
