    keep working at them but don't overtrain

    Just keep practicing it. The more you do it the better you get at it eventually.
    Increase volume, vary rep ranges etc.

    This exactly. You could also always supplement your pullups with training on a pullup assist machine, lat pull downs, etc. to increase your capacity as well.
