How many different lifts for the back?

How many lifts do you guys think are necessary for back development? I read somewhere that you should do even more pulling movements than pushing because the back muscles are so large. Thanks for any advice.

Umm...back isn't really involved in pushing motion...its mostly for pulling. Deadlifts, GMs, bent over rows, pullups are pretty much the essentials.

red dragon, he is implying back (pulling) is more importan t then pushing (chest).

depends on goals i guess... Imo back needs deads, pullups and rows

This also depends what you call your back. If you mean everything below your skull and above your ass then here's what I can come up with off the top of my head:

Shrugs
Row (seated machine, bent over, kneeling on bench, standing)
Pulldowns
Reverse Flies
Pull Ups
Back extensions
Dead lifts

^what's GM stand for?

Lower Back/Spinal Erectors: Deadlifts and/or Squats
Lats/Rhomboids/Lower Traps: Pullups/Pulldowns and/or Rows and/or Deadlifts
Middle/Upper Traps: Deadlifts and/or Shrugs

Top Bottom
