hey crew,
got a serious question. i've been on zoloft for a year and a half now, and what i've noticed is that it takes me like 1 to 2 hours to orgasm... was never like that before... i've read online that this is common with up to 60% of males that use antidepressant medications... so i was wondering if there was anyone on here that has any experience in this or could offer me some advice, because i'm gettin lots of lady attention and interest lately, but they just end up getting bored waiting for me.... :worried: thanks for your time!

When I took zoloft it would take me at least one hour to even feel some what close. From what I've read this is normal on that medication.

S.S.R.I.'s are known to cause this kind of side effect. It's very common. Now ask youself, how are you going to combat/resolve this problem?

well once i get insurance i will most likely talk to a good doc about it. i've heard that they may try different medications to see which one gives you the "least" issues... or just adding wellbutrin. thats the best plan i can come up with.

hmmm, could more zinc and arginine increase sensitivity, worth a try.

I have a question regarding the the positive impact SSRI's have had on you people's life, do you feel like they have made a signifigance improvement? I am very anti-social especially around strangers and was thinking of trying them to see how it goes.

anorgasmia. it's somewhat common, especially with those types of meds. it might take a med switch to fix it. and it's possible that it can go away after a few weeks. but if it's been a year and a half, well, you'll have to weigh the pro's and con's of your Zoloft.

thanks for the replies, all. i appreciate your help and input!
daveyboy, it made a huge difference for me personally, i wish i had been on these meds when i was younger, i feel that i could have really experienced high school and even junior high/grade school the way i wanted to, but just couldn't due to social anxieties and such. its worth talking to a doc about, my friend. Best of luck bro!

Same with me.. thinking about switching to Wellbutrin, as it doesnt carry the same sexual side effects as the other anti-dep's

Sometimes increased testosterone levels can overcome the anorgasmy associated with SSRI's. Sometimes switching to a different SSRI can help.

I think Zoloft has now been approved as treatment for premature ejaculation if my memory serves me correctly.

Zoloft is notorious for delaying orgasm, but most of the SSRIs do the same, with some of them also causing erectile dysfunction, though that often ceases after a month or so.

Wellbutrin is not an SSRI, which is why it doesn't have this effect. An alternative might be to switch to Wellbutrin and reduce the Zoloft to a low dose. You'll still get some benefits of the SSRI.

A new drug, Cymbalta, affects serotonin and norepinephrine. Haven't heard about its effect on the penis. Somebody mentioned Celexa or Lexapro (mirror drugs). For many people, they have less effect than, say, Paxil (a horrible drug) and Prozac.

Davey asked about antidepressants and social anxiety. YOu might read the book "Listening to Prozac," which includes a good description of the effects of these drugs on personality by many users. Not everyone becomes more social, but many do. What we've learned, though, is that none of these drugs have their effect forever. In the case of social anxiety, though, the drug is useful in helping people "relearn" social skills. They also can increase productivity immensely in some people.
