Your take in Immigrants!

Just building houses wouldn't be enough. You need to build factories. Then you need to convince city planners that more low-moderate income housing is needed, reather than $500,000.00 homes. Our politiciams have their heads intheir asses when it comes to responsible planning for the future. They'd rather spend less now on a 2 lane bridge & experince gridlock & unnecessary traffic deaths for 15 of the next 20 yrs, than put a 4 lane bridge in.
We've got a local Highway between 2 major cities that is the only direct route & needs to be widened, or bypassed with an express route. They've been debating it for 25 yrs and are still no closer.
Infrastructure, in all it's guises & immigration go hand in hand.

the downside of increased population far outweighs the advantages of it. I hate la traffic, but love the fact that EVERYTHING is here and there' so much variety and i'm never bored. I know people who haven't left the city in decades. Canada only has *1* metropolis, so too funny Canada talking about 'over-population'. Longs way to go in 99.9% of Canada.

The area I live has 3/4 million people within3/4 hr drive, & a coupla million within 1 2/2 hrs. We're not L.A, but we're not Bumfuk Idaho either. We're def not overpopulated, but I wouldn't want it any other way. A good compromise, I think.

and the advantage of a big population: you have a cn tower, skydome, bustling haborfront, broadway shows, lots of medical specialists, airport, amusement park. None of which is available to small-town folks. It being 'canada' is irrelevant - this is a generic formula for societies. But you're right, some city halls really can't handle big populations and fuck it up with traffic jams, high home prices, etc. LA has fucked it up big time. Atlanta and Vegas has done a great job.
