Deadlift variation. i try to do a bunch of different pulls throughout the week. yesterday, i did some 20 rep sets of DB DL's. kinda reminded me of trap bar deads. anyone else switch up their pulling techniques or styles???

Do you place the DBS in front of you..or to the side?
it can go either way. and when it does, you wind up feeling it somewhere else. i was getting more of a bend in my waist and not quite touching the ground. but i have at times before, squatted all the way down, till the db's rested on the floor. they're pretty intense, for anyone who wants to give them a try.

Is it a wide stance like ATF squats?

no, it's pretty narrow. but i still have the db's drag up the sides of my leg, it's hard doing 1/4 laterals w/100+ db's.

Stand on a 3 inch box. That's some shit right there.

And I look even weaker when I use a snatch grip. :worried: It doesn't seem right to call it max effort so I try to do something complimentry afterwards.

I don't think my gym has DB's that would be heavy enough. I've been pulling conventional over/under for 2 years, just switched to sumo's about a month ago. Already passed my PR's, just makes my hips sore as hell.

i like to use dbs for SLDL...but my gym only carries db's up to like 110 for two..they have one of 120 and one of 130..go figure.. i dont know if i could really get a good back workout with deadlifting 110's dumbells....i know teh SLDL's are killer tho

well, DB's give you a fuller rom & your upper body has a lot more motion going on.

I must say, never saw DL done with DB, I mean I have seen some DB do DL, but never the other way ;-)
Do the same weight with the DB's as the bar?

lol, if you can, go for it.

what kind of weight were you doing with the DBs and what's your max with the BB like in comparison, HT?
i've used the 120's, but not for sets of 20. i just used the 90's my last time out. i can pull 5 plates + but i did 465 x 2 last week. just started up with DL'ing again. i can't believe how quick grip strength goes.

I like doing them with feet elevated and also from the racks
yep, i just tried sumo pulls with my feet on a ~4-5" stepper. really tough... i'm hoping to work these for a few months and get my pulls from the floor moving too :)
