your favorite book......recommendations

yea pretty much .. i would rather read something that means something and i can learn from ..

don't get me wrong i read nonfiction too. i also enjoy a piece that is maybe embellished with fiction a bit too. like historical events that the novel revolves around, but real event nonetheless.

but i read mostly fiction. i love stories and fiction books tend to have the more interesting plots. i like that they provide an escape from reality for me. When i read fiction i get swept off to another world, a different dimension and you can just get lost there for a few moments, have that same "experience" the characters feel without ever leaving your couch. makes you forget the hassle and stress of everyday life.

Billfred, nice post.
Shogun is one of my alltime faves.
I even read the other one... I forgot the title after it.
Shogun was the shit, awesome how many characters just kept appearing and you could understand and empathize with.
Fucking great read.

Ebony...you don't have to buy the book...here is the lecture...

very interesting. i was raised to believe in god, that there is a higher power we must fear and abide by. religion is man's idea, a series of mythical stories passed down. and when you tell a lie too many times it becomes truth does it not. and when you break it down however you like; bottom line is truth comes second to faith. you can shower a person with fact after fact and you will not get through if they are closed off the idea. but implying religion is the root of all evil as so many atheist have claimed is simply delusional. the world will not be a peace and total harmony and we will all live happily ever after if...if religion was not a factor or if religion was absent in our lives. that is simply crazy, the only way people will be conflict free is if we all looked the same, dressed the same, ate the same, thought process was the same, ect.

that being said i still believe in god, cant say I've been or is very "religious" but i find comfort in faith, in the idea that when a loved one dies, that he or she is going to a better place and that we'll meet again some day. it is soothing to think there is a presence watching over you as I've been told so many times.

then again you might ask why would i believe in a god that created a world full of and based on evidence if there is none of himself to find. that pretty much anything we cannot directly sense in this world is discovered by collecting evidence for it through observation and experimentation, but there hasn't been any of God yet, b/c he doesn't exist? but then agian if there hasn't been proof how can we disprove? its all about perception. it all boils down to faith. and weather you choose to believe of not. i believe because i find solace in the thought and comfort, a kind of sanctuary. i am guessing atheists feel something similar, maybe a kind a freedom that they do not base thier lives or "fallow" the the teaching of a higher power that may not exist.
