OTHER common rules are silent letters not pronounced,

Mb at the end of a word (silent b), e.g. comb, lamb, climb.
Sc at the beginning of a word followed by 'e' or 'i', (silent c), e.g. scene, scent, science, scissors
Kn (silent k), e.g. knife, knock, know.
Ght (silent gh), e.g. night, ought, taught
Gn at the beginning of a word (silent g), e.g. gnome, gnaw, gnu
Bt (silent b), e.g. debt, doubtful, subtle (but not in some words, e.g. 'obtain', 'unobtrusive'!)

The proper use of everybody,anybody,anyone,each,etc.

The words EVERYBODY, ANYBODY, ANYONE, EACH, NEITHER, NOBODY, SOMEONE, A PERSON, etc. are singular and take singular pronouns.

Everybody ought to do his or her best. (NOT: their best)

Neither of the girls brought her umbrella. (NOT: their umbrellas)

Poor spelling seems to be due to phonics being used as a reading tool. Not to mention the use of computers, spell check and the teachers that let children get away with it because well, "they understand it in their head".

Who and whom -- a favorite of mine.

Hanz - call me crazy but you seem to have issues larger than grammatical ones.
(No offense)

Also, don't confuse typo's with incorrect word usage.

That said - always kiss the copywriter's ass.

Hanz why do you dislike America so much?

I thought I made it clear that I was contrasting US English with the brand I am familiar with, not judging it as good or bad.

You're a patronising asshole but your mother is fine :)

Your - denotes ownership, not an acceptable method of contracting 'you' and 'are'

Acceptable in sentences like: "Your lack of literacy makes my eyeballs spontaneously liquify and dribble down my cheeks"

You're - the proper contraction of the words 'you' and 'are,' in the "You are" sequence. This is the proper word to use in such sentences as:

"You're an illiterate asshole."

Thanks.

Come on Frack, he's just mentioning differences in speech.
I've worked with a bunch of Brits, Aussies, and Kiwi's (who get really pissed when you think they're Brittish or esp. Australian :), most Americans can't differientiate the accents of various other English speaking countries...), so I'm used to all sorts of speech.

Everyone is used to the speech where they live, I live in Texas but find deep drawls amusing, the Boston accent is downright annoying, y'all just takes some getting used to, and I don't know WTF to think of some of the speech in Louisiana:)

NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "FURTHER" AND "FARTHER".

FARTHER.......RELATES TO DISTANCE.

FURTHER........RELATES TO A DEGREE.
