Yet another weighted dips question...

So i buckled down and bought the Grizzly weighted dip belt off Bodybuilding.com. That thing is a monster. I walked into the gym and everyone was staring at it like it was some sort of medieval torture device. Anyway, i left it in my locker and when it was time for dips, i went and grabbed it. I weigh about 220 so usually I do 4 sets of 10-15 reps for dips. I know i can squeeze out a few more but i usually feel winded.

Anyway, I strapped on a 45lb plate and did my routine. Jesus. I did 4 sets of 10 and on my last set, i struggled so hard to get the last 2 reps. Now, 2 days later, I don't feel the DOMS as much as when I do with CGBP or heavy triceps pulldowns but my arms do feel like Jell-O. I also like knowing i am hitting my chest so it's like killing two birds ya know.

Anyway, question is, can i stick to doing dips as my main triceps movement or have many of ya'll seen better mass development with CGBP's or Skull crushers, etc.....

I would stick to weighted dips for at least a few weeks as your main tricep exercise. They are much more effective than tri ext or skull crushers, and generally safer on the elbows if done correctly. Just make sure to warm your shoulders/elbows up properly.

Dips are easier on the wrists, too. Close grip benching and doing skull crushers make my elbows and wrists hurt a lot. After getting more flexibility in my shoulders, I never get any pain from doing heavy (330 lb = me + 2 x 45s) dips.

if you bench with your wrists back that may be causing the pain. and damn that is what you call a weighted dip!!

How do you do your dips? Lean forward a little with your chin tucked in and your feet a little in front of you. That will free up your tris and work your chest more. Play around with it, I think your working the tris more than your chest. Anyways stick to the dips.

personally I keep my back straight... even a little arch and raise my feet a lil behind me an just cross my ankles!! this seems to hit my chest and an kills my tris!! I work my may up to my max and then work my way back down about 15 sets in all!! my max right now is 64kgs and I hit it for 3 reps... most sets on my way up are are six unti I start gettin to the top then it's four... however on the way back down it's usually closer to failure though that's about in the 3-5 range towards the upper end... about 8 or so in the middle and when I get down to 16 kg I go for about 18 and then with no weight for a couple sets of 33... my dip workout makes my tris ache like they're gonna just break an fall off the back of my arms!!

I turn my wrists out slightly so that the weight is centered more inline with the wrist, very similar to the proper bench press form. The great thing with dips is that it is extremely hard to cheat. Leaning forward may make it slightly easier but you will never be able to lean forward enough to really cheat.

to cheat what?? do mean focusing more on tris or chest?? if my body is vertical while doing dips I can't go as low... and it seems to torque the shoulder towards an unnatural position... I lean forward, probably aroud the 45-55 degree range, I feel it work my chest on the deeper end and kill my tris on the other!! you are steadily lowering your body between two bars and then pushing up!! how do you cheat at dips?? that's like cheating at deadlifts, I understand cheating at curls (the swing) I understand cheating at pullups (the kick) but I don't get how you cheat at weighted dips??

Stick with the weighted dips for all of the above mentioned reasons. Dips are the ONLY tricep exercise I've done in almost a year.
