WTF!!! Just recieved email from DEA

I just received an email from [email protected], actually I got about 5 of them, that read:

The Fda has logged all use of this site (getpinz.com) Your ip address and all personal information is now on file with the fda and dea. Do not visit this site again for illegal purchases or you will be investigated. Jail time and or fine may be imposed. SRT. Ricky Gonzalez.

Is this shit for real? Im guessing it is, but from a pins site?

Highly doubt that a dea agent would have that email adress and it wouldn DEF not be .com it would be dea.gov or something like that.

what he said, all gonernment administrations are .gov

someone is screwing with you, and this assumes that it is illegal to purchase pins in your state.

It's easy to spoof an email address. The thing to be concerned about is how whoever is sending the emails knows that you shop at getpinz and has your email address. Is your computer hacked or is getpinz hacked? How do you pay for purchases on getpinz? Maybe there's been a hack via that route. Is it illegal for you to purchase pins? Is there any worthwhile information in the header of the email?

Fake. No worries about the DEA, bro.

The e-mail header information reveals that said e-mails did not come from the DEA, but from a couple of IP addresses owned by a website hosting company, RackSpace.com

I'd guess one of a couple things happened: either pinz got hacked, and their e-mail list was stolen, and subsequently somebody sent this little e-mail out OR pinz was got hit by a "spear-phishing" attack directed only at them.

If you used a CC on your order, I'd watch charges. IF, and I repeat IF, pinz got hacked and a customer list stolen, that MIGHT I repeat MIGHT including CC information.

Yes, I know what I'm talking about. If you have any further questions for me, use encrypted mail to [email protected] .

I AM IN NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH GPINZ AS ANYTHING OTHER THAN A CUSTOMER.

Thats the thing, Im really not worried about the DEA part of it since it does seem bogus, especially for pins, but what Im worried about is the CC info that could have been hacked.

I got the same one this morning... One of my frens purchased some pins from another (will not name) pins site, and then unfortunately referred my name/email to them...I have been getting a ton of emails from them now...hmmm - It's proably from them trying to make people purchase from their site instead. Hopefully that's all... I'll try go to that site and see if they ask if I have frens that shop at any other pins sites or something to that effect - and will let you know. Either way I think we're ok.

that makes sense, make ALL precautions just to make sure!

CC info may have been included? :worried: great... :worried:

Don't be worried. Simply take reasonable precautions. Ultimately, you are responsible for the security of your personal information. Just watch the charges.

Their domain has been removed and has been for a few days. I think if it was a hack they would have fixed it by now. Since I know them, they're only an hour from here, I would have expected a phone call by now if they were having problems. I can't say with certainty but I'm guessing that they are indeed out of business.

by choice or by force?

I wouldn't make leaps now. It's possible this is a hack job, trojan etc... who knows. I would suggest we wait and see what getpinz says.

My personal guess would be that the site was hacked.

DEA.COM is a software dealer. This is a total hack job if I ever saw one. The DEA would never warn anyone, they just setup traps to catch people. No worries!

for example, the from email: [email protected]
the drugdealer part just doesn't seem like a realistic email, remember about 2 months ago there was a virus going around sending @fbi.gov emails. I fathom it's something like that.

also, DEA.com, no it's DEA.GOV
makes no sense for them to send you an email from a .COM when it's a .GOV organization

http://www.dea.com/
take a look yourself
not a DEA site
DEA = drug enforcement agency

btw...whoever did it is not that versed in these sites, you'd think they'd at least use .gov lol

I don't want to start anything, but I got another strange e-mail last week from someone called "gearbox" stating emphatically that they weren't associated with Getpinz. Today I got 3 of these fake DEA e-mails. The timing is suspicious and seems like a chapter out of Guerilla Marketing of something similar.

Sounds like total bullshit. They'd provide a phone number and address for you to contact them at, they wouldn't have warned you. It's a competitor of the getpinz site or someone just messing with you, for sure

Got the same e-mail... ordered from them 2 weeks ago... Usually I go another route, but they are quick. Not worried. Pinz aren't illegal. How else can I do my B-12 shots?

I got the email as well, 3 of them. I came straight here, glad to see I was not the only one. If anyone gets more info, please update us. Thanks guys.

Monopoly

I got the same emails just spam. Funny though how did Getpinz let ip address out Did they sell them? I think we should ask. If our email was sold to spammers from Getpinz.

damn...i got it too...i thought i was the only one...and like the rest of us... came here to check.

i almost shit my pants at work before realizing that DEA would not be .com

it would be .org

but why do this? you think somebody hacked into the getpinz site?

yup...i got that one as well

does anybody know (because i don't remember from my last order) if getpinz uses an outside CC source for it's purchaces of do they hold our CC info for themselves on file? like paypal or something like that. if it's an independant company then our info should be OK.

anybody?

Yes, it is most definitely a scam. Does anyone remember the thread I posted a week or so ago about the unsolicited email form gearboxinc? The email address they sent it to was the same one I use for GPZ and only for GPZ. I replied to gearboxinc asking who referred me to them and they said someone must have used the "refer a friend" link on their site. Sounds like BS to me since nobody but GPZ knows that email.

Definitely some sneaky marketing going on here -too bad it scares the hell out of folks.

I got the same thing and I think you're right about gearbox.

Good to hear, I got the same email today several times too. I was a bit worried until I checked the domain. Everything seems to be ok, though. No worries.

Yea I got 3 of them, and it's dea.gov to the dumb ass hacker that figured out smtp mail is just plain text and unverified.

fucking weird. i too got the same damn emails....3 of them.

Don't worry about it. I've had hoax E-mails like that, too. Mine were supposedly from the FBI. They're garbage. Just delete them.

Hehe got one in my e-mail today and came right here, i havent ordered from gpz in a few months though.

heh, if it had anything to do with the US government it would have been from http://www.dea.gov/, government associated groups do not use .com, .net, etc. websites. I think it is just some kid thinking he is funny.

EDIT: Apparently this has been answered already...I didn't get to the second page :p

Oh another reason why I know it's BS. Where I live pins are legal to buy, and that's all I've ever gotten off of them. Not only that, but they said they got my email from my IP. Well, I live in a new area and have all new pcs.

Sorry if this has been stated...but should I be worried if I recently purchased from them with credit or is that safe...as far as my card being hacked into?

It looks like they just took emails off of yahoo and never got into the e-commerce website. But that's conjecture at this point.

The fact that they got my email tells me they are privy to private info from GPZ. I only used that email for GPZ. Apologies for beating a dead horse but I'm pissed.

Were all pist guys. GPZ are good guys. Someone has stolen their info for competitive purposes it appears.

We are working on this and will update you guys when new info becomes available or confirmed. Please refrain from emailing us mods and or posting duplicate threads until that time. Lets keep this to the current threads. Other GPZ threads will be deleted.

GPZ have always been top notch guys. We are all pist at the sittuation.
