Yarg!

Platinum Membership gift from THE BOMB SQUAD!
Ok, everytime Im playing star wars galxies, the game would crash to desktop (if im lucky) or the screen goes black and the machine stops whirring. Hard drive light stops blinking but this other light is on signifying the machine is still alive somehow. So i press on button and no boot up screen on my monitor. This chick's voice goes : "system failed cpu test" over and over again. I turn it off and boot up again, this time it goes to windows. Start up star wars again..... same thing 5 minutes later!

Problem B.

My internet is also going at a snail pace. Pages load abysmally slow and I download files at around 8 kb per second! I have cable but ive been downloading files from these sites for sometime so I know its never been this slow. Therefore it cant be b/c of cable's "share" properties.

my machine:
1.6 ghz Athlon xp
256ddr
30gig segate barracuda 7200rpm
Geforce 4 Ti4200 from Winfast
On board sound
Windows XP

What could be wrong!? Please help, ill give karma, hugs, fruit plates, anything!!!

hmm sounds like a possible heat issue. Have you overclocked the CPU? You should download motherboard monitor to see what your CPU's temp is running at. You also may wanna download prime95. It has a stress test that will test your computers stability. Other suggestions would be to run:

Virus scan
adaware/spybot
hardware diagnostics
Maybe reseat the cpu
Check the fans to make sure they are all working

1. Run MS Config. Start Menu/Run/ Type MS Config
Then go to start up items. Uncheck the stuff you don't need starting up but be careful because some you need to start up.

2. Download adware, http://www.lavasoft.com and get the spyware of your computer.

3. Kick the computer. (ok don't do that)

yeah heat could be a problem. i have no fans on the harddrive and the gpu apparently tends to run quite hot. do you think taking off the case and leaving it off might help?

The Hard drive doesn't need a fan but there is at least one working fan in the case right? Really it's good for a case to have 2 fans.

yeah i was thinking heat issue as well. as i asked before: would it help if i unscrewd that case and left it unscrewed for abit more air?

Having the case open won't really make a difference unless you take a house fan and blow that in there.

Modern processors are designed to not kill themselves and instead they will keep slowing down until they can no longer do work and then will shut themselves down.

It sounds like either the CPU fan fell off or stopped working - worse case scenario (other than a fried chip) is that the fan is stuck and generating heat trying to run - that means instead of cooling the chip, it is actually actively heating it.

I agree its a cpu issue...i had the exact same thing happening last month.
My cure was the heat sink compound had dried and wasn't effectively dissipating heat.
Remove the CPU heat sink wipe the old with a paper towel reapply fresh compound replace heat sink..and thats it!

AMD is well known to have heat issues
