What's that new car that Toyota has out? Yaris? 40 miles to the gallon.

40 mpg hwy ... prob low 30's city. In real world mileage it isn't getting better than the ECHO the car it replaced. I owned an 05 Corolla LE and when I evacuated for Katrina with 4 people and luggage I got 39.6 mpg.

with fule prices, people are going to start buying these cars that get that mileage. I'm thinking about it, myself.

Detroit News, based out of detroit michigan, the epicenter of american auto makers, could hardly be considered an unbiased judge of automobiles.

american buyers vote with their checkbook.........they buy what they want, not what they are told. sad to say, toyota and honda have kicked american ass for years and years...by building a better car/truck. :worried:

True, but historically DN hasn't favored Ford or other U.S. makers over Toyota.

They're a ripoff. You'll probably never recover even the upfront price premium you pay for that type of car in gas savings. The mileage estimates are also screwy because of the way they run. They're good for highway driving, but in city driving brings the numbers way down.

True, Yaris are being sold for MSRP and the Honda Fit is typically going for $500 over MSRP, but beware of EPA gas mileage rating on the windows they typically misrepresent "real world mileage" ... usually significally.

I just read a report about a Jeep Liberty diesel that was rated at 22mpg city and CR got 11 mpg :worried:

The EPA guidelines are supposed to be changed in Fall 2007.

the ford futoin has to be the gayest looking car I have ever seen.
I would take a toyota celica over that peace anny day.
besides honda beets them all.

I just realized how much this sounds like my attitude towards white american women. :p

That's interesting! My last car was a Camry, and my new car is the Fusion, so I can say from experience that I like the Fusion better. It's a nice car. I get a big discount on Ford products because my Dad retired from Ford. Until the Fusion, I didn't buy a Ford because I couldn't find one that I liked. It's a nice car.

Im buying an international CXT for my work next month

lol, cant beat 7 miles to the gallon Diesel.
70 gallon tank. what is that? 300$ roughly a tank?
good lord Im glad I can write off gas milage

Those electronic mileage displays on the console have about as much accuracy as a cross-eyed sniper.

No truck is or has been better than the F150 series by Ford. Even Chevy makes a better truck overall than any foreign competition.

Until 3 years later when the Ford starts breaking down like crazy. Toyota Camery will push 250k miles easy with not alot of problems. Let's see an American car do that.

I would definitely test drive the Hyundai Sonata that comes fully loaded with 5 star crash ratings all around and with $5,000 less price tag before buying any of those two. It's winning awards left and right by JD Power and Associates and from others. Hyundai is predicted to surpass Honda and Toyota in sales by 2011.

I don't know about the quality of F150, but it is the #1 selling vehicle in USA. http://www.jalopnik.com/cars/news/s...g-vehicles-in-us-rise-year-to-year-128859.php Them southern hicks must love their trucks cause Chevy Silverado is also #2. But Japan's focus wasn't on the Truck market until recently and plans a full assault.

First we took the this land from then Indians through war and violence. Now the Japanese seem to be taking it from us through capitalism. The problem could be we have too many crack addicts and slacker kids on the lines putting the parts on cars. Anyone ever been through Flint? Detroit speaks for itself too. If we want to build better cars we have to start deeper than the auto industry. Hell maybe it doesn't matter who's on top, we'll see.

that's where the japanese will win out. their vehicles go 250k miles and then some with not alot of problems. even a korean's hyundai is emphazing the importance of reliability and quality.

I know these foreign cars run forever. Had a toyota corolla years ago that the body totally rusted out on before the engine died! It had over 250K. Oh well, I still love my Ford truck.

the cars with issues are the ones outsourced to korea, mexico, and china...

REAL american made cars are very good, but pricey.

i rather have a car made in korea or china than america.

Myself, I'm going to shop around for a car come the end of the month. I'll be looking for something 4-door with extra's and roomy, and hopefully a sunroof. I'm pretty sure I'll go American.

I think that even the Jettas sold on american market are made in Mexico, arent they? :worried:

Who said anything about reselling it? I'm going to use it in a demolition derby and I'll like a sunroof for being able to get out easily if it starts on fire.

Actually, resale value is pretty far down on my list of things to consider when it comes to buying a car.

yes they are, even if they are made in deutschland, they are pieces of shit when it comes to quality and longevity.
