Would it matter what type of person it was that needed to be saved? If there were a group of people that just stood there and watched without helping should they should be punished. Discuss

nice fucking thread, great story, im fucking not hard

anyways, i would probably have to be in that situation like everyone else for fuck sakes

for a child yes

for a MoFo that's 100, prob knot

It depends on the mood and the situation. I feel like if I can blame others for not saving the fallen victim, then I can also blame others for not lynching the bad guy.

Yes and I have, Ive jumped into the back of a car that had just rolled several times, passenger ejected, driver trapped, fuel spilling everywhere, ems freaking trying to get in by the time our truck rolled on scene. I got in wearing street clothes and was working at freeing him up from the tangled mess inside while my guys set up the hurst equipment to cut the door off.

but thats my job so maybe this doesnt count

If it's your job it doesn't count, I've tackled a couple crazies with knives before in the ER just so they didn't cut anyone; I rear naked choked on crazy guy out once.

Props on the heroism though nonetheless

as my chief said, your only a hero because it worked out, if that car would have exploded you would be another name on a wall somewhere

not believable ^

I did once... phil collins later wrote a song about it!

Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am
Well I was there and I saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been.....

Defeat is the stepping stone to victory.

My old job was "saving lives".
My employer was the american citizens. I was a Navy Corpsman, I spent my time with both the Marine Corps, and Some Guys that that specialized in removing bad guys from this planet. I faced the reality of death on a daily basis, and life by the minute. I would not hesitate to immediately act in any life threatening situation. We all face physiological, and psychological instincts that can make us heroes or cowards in a split second. I applaud anyone for acting to save a life, especially if that life is an innnocent victim. I applaud the average man/woman who have acted to save a life, these men/woman have not trained countless hours to control their fight or flight instincts. They are brave people who are a very small percentage of their race. Being part of both sides, I have great appreciation for those who place themselves in situations to save and protect their fellow citizens.
It is NEVER like the movies, I have trembled with fear and entered the silent world in both situations.
There is no brotherhood like the bond created between men in the face of life or death, even if a brief instant, their lives are forever joined and only they know the bond created in their spirit.

lotta self grandiosity military up in here

we got java, ledhead and now motorcycle giant...I really miss AV :( .. I miss quiet military time

anyone EMS doesn't count..tho nurses and drs that work in the ED maybe get extra props because they can work somewhere else in the med field usually

child no matter what i would try

adult, if it was my wife i'd die trying to save her

otherwise, if I don't think I can do it, I wouldn't. Like if people fell through open ice, I wouldn't be jumping in to try to find them cause I don't have the proper skills and shit. It just depends on situation, but I would try what ever I could to help..

oh, and, lol @ woot, haha

I think it's a duty as a human being to do your best to do that. I'm not saying that I have the guts to go into a burning building that's about to collapse, to search for somebody, but if I saw the person alive in there, and I could physically get to them (that is; I have at least a chance to survive it), my answer is yes I would. Sadly I had to watch someone burn alive in a car fire, as it was too late to get anywhere near them, and they were already hurt to the point they couldn't have lived. All I could see in the flames was a body moving a little, and it looked like they puffed up as to take a deep breath, and they disappeared. It was a small car that had crashed underneath a tanker truck on Hwy 210 east of Los Angeles in the middle of the night about 8 years ago. Seeing something like that, makes you KNOW that you wouldn't ever allow it to happen if you have any possibility whatsoever to stop it.

It's actually a law here to help someone in need and you can be held legally responsible if you don't.

Good Samaritan Law / Doctrine

Studies have shown that a person is more likely to act if alone as opposed to a group of bystanders who might expect someone else in the group to take action.

There was a tornado in Missouri this week where a man, his two children, and his wife who was 5 months pregnant were in the vehicle. He held on to his sons while his wife was sucked out and swept away. I feel for that man and the decision he had to make in that moment. :(

Reality can really suck sometimes, but that's life. I don't mean to ruin anyone's morning, but then again, I wouldn't want to not share something that might motivate someone not to put themselves in a position of lifelong guilt over not doing something. I know that my experience that night will be in my mind if (God forbid) the situation comes up, and I need to make a decision... I'd rather it be my experience that I already dealt with, that motivates someone else, than for them to have to see what I saw for themselves...

everybody has to die of something.. with that said..

it's 10:45 and i've already gone on 2 heart attacks today..

Im going to die today if I dont get any hydros. Will someone save my life?

I found that out the hard way... Not trying to save anyone, but we had a fire in the house in 1988, and I knew enough to want to rush into the house and slam all the interior doors to slow the fire, which I did, but I got burnt lungs and have scar tissue to this day from that. You can't see heat, and you can't see poison gases. You should have heard the lecture I got from the fire captain when they were writing the report!

I don't place different value on "life". So my answer is YES! I would try to save, elderly, kids, animals etc.... If I knew it was feasible. I wouldn't try to be a hero.
To only try to save people you love says a lot about character. I despise my ex's but would still try to save them, cept the one who almost gave me aids.
I would however not save a human who has little value in life like a pedophile, child/animal abusers etc. To me, they are not life.

fuck that, that's stupid

i would die trying to save my wife and kids, but wouldn't go that far with any one else-i'd be calling 911 then

Seriously fuck everyone else, call me greedy but I like my life. Same as is I was in that situation. Let me die. My kids are the only ones. If I saw ER dying I would laugh and say nice fucking none life

Ya but put in that situation how are you going to know they are pedophiles...like I say, fuck everyone. The worlds a shitty place

I could imagine the colourful lecture. I couldnt imagine being in a fire without ba on. hopefully your house was saved after that effort

you know...I got some shit for shutting doors on my way out when my house burned down...

and ya, you can't see heat...I never even felt my feet burning when I ran out carrying my daughter and my feet had blisters from running across the floor barefoot..
plus it moves faster than you can ever imagine

all I could think of was staying calm enough to not get us killed and get out, I didnt say shit to the dispatcher after the initial 911 call until I got outside safely

that's what you get for falling asleep with a cigarette in your mouth

yeah, thats fucking hilarious...i lost everything I owned to an electrical fire douche

Cindy; yep! I've been really unlucky with men! I was with this guy 11 yrs, we owned a renovation business together and had a really happy/good life for the first 10 yrs.
Then found out he was cheating, he moved out, got a new house. Then he begged for me back. I was weak and took him back (we had a lot to lose and I thought I could get over the cheating) and things were going well, then the Taint he was cheating on me with confronted me to tell me he was still seeing her (the entire time he was back with me) and that she has hiv.
She told me they were having an affair the entire last year we were together and he knew she was infected. Then she hits me with "And we have been having sex unprotected the entire time"
Yep.....anyway, confronted him with her and he looked at her and said "I cannot believe you told her" meaning me
I ended up speaking to her husband who told me she was infected by his brother. Her husband died of aids and this guys brother married her. She's been married 3 times.
When my ex and I met her (she was a client), we thought she was a trannie. She really does look like a man.
Long story short, I walked away, he tried to come back time and again and when I finally told him to really F off, he married his taint (He is husband #4) and I believe he now has aids. I was numb for an entire year and waiting for hiv results for 6-9 months was PURE HELL!

Woot, good story eh?! ;-)

Moral of the story, you never really know someone. Then I got into relationships with 2 other cheating sociopaths after him. My last ex was fucking all kinds of women (got himself a case of herpes) and I left him when I caught him cheating with an obese married crazy with 3 kids who stalked and crank called me for 6 months after I left him and my ex knew she was doing this and was still seeing her, along with many other women.
When I tried to be his friend again last summer, he was showing me txt\s from this slob he was cheating with and she was saying how she gave him herpes and she was going to get her new bf to beat the shit out of him. He was laughing when he showed me these.
He told me he was banging women unprotected even though he has herpes. Typical narc, he can do whatever he wants, who cares who he give herpes to. He got it, so everyone is going to pay. Loser x 1000000!

I have a great angel cause I didn't get hiv or herpes!

I suck at picking men!

And of course I would not know who's a pedophile or an abuser, but if I knew, I would not make a move to try to save them.

maybe it's not your choice in men...maybe it's just YOU that is the problem.

really, not funny!

Abusive men who run around giving other's std's, yeah, anyone can say these were not good people.
Though I took a long look at myself and why I picked men like this.
In the begining, they seemed ok. But as Cindy can tell you, it takes a while to see the narc traits.

Yeah, it's hard to accept that's what it is even after you see the traits.

i stopped reading after the first sentence when "job" was mentioned. you should have stopped typing after that!

Woot, I did not get genital herpes. I used a condom every time. And out of sheer paranoia now, I get tested 1 x yr for every std, even though I am still cautious.

Cindy, true! Even after I accessed the situation over and over, it took a long while to accept it all. It's just so bizarre.
