Would you rat out a cheating co-worker?

This guy in my department cheats to make it look like he's doing more work than he does. This causes me and everyone else to look bad. I think I'm going to rat him out. I don't care if they fire his ass or not. I'm not going to let my job performance suffer from his cheating.

I can be pretty evil - so I'll have to say yes BUT I'd set him up to expose himself without having to make it look like I was ratting him out.

Setting him up is not possible in this situation. It's either rat him out or let my performance suffer. Basically, because he's doing so much "work" the rest of us have our standards increased as well.

heh heh

Velvett wants him to expose himself ;)

Dude, shes totally hijacking your thread with another "show us your penis" posts that she's famous for

do it anonymously. via discrete email (make up a phony account)

give all the details of how he is doing it.

In my past experience, I'm pretty cutthroat at work. You do favors for me, I do favors for you. You cause me grief, I will get you fired in a heatbeat. Anywho who slacks without a good reason (illness, family emergency etc) and increases my workload because of it, is fair game for being ratted out. I'm a team player, but if you are on my team, we are there to win, so do your part.

Any job I do, I give 100%, perform above the expectation, and expect the be rewarded accordingly. If I am ahead of the curve and a manager fucks with, I will get him fired just as fast. Stay out of my way when I am winning.

Of course you can.

Get evidence (what sort of evidence do you have btw?) and plant it into the hands of the right person.

Tells us about the evidence - I'm sure on of us (AAP - LOL) could direct you in the correct and evil direction.

i cut slack to people who are cordial and friendly to me and have admirable qualities which make up for their lacking in other areas. However if they're annoying, selfish, self-serving and quite plainly i never get along with them. I extend them no mercy.

As long as you're not posting on EF during the workday, I say sure, rat him out. :)

LMAO

Eventually people will figure it out. I would just continue to bust my ass (so that i look good, but deserve it) and bide my time - at least for a while. Depending on how you react you could be labeled as that guy; you know the asshole who can't stand to see people get ahead.

Ha! I am posting on EF during the workday. However, we have breaks and the company puts up with a certain amount of surfing.

However, not only does this guy make me look bad but he also hurts our customers. My job is tech support. We answer tech emails all day. What my co-worker is doing is deleting the emails without sending answers. He gets credit for answering all the deleted messages (which are all stored on our network so there's plenty of evidence). This means the poor end user that needs help doesn't get an answer to their problem. Needless to say, this is not good for business. He's doing some other crap to make himself look better on paper as well.

Whoa. Not good for business at all. How is it that the end users haven't complained yet about not getting a response? All they have to do is show their copy of the email they sent.. and Mr.Deleter would be busted..no?

Is there some sort of follow up by a supervisor? Customer sends e-mail, the deleter deletes the e-mail, supervisor follows up with contact with customer to see if service was adequate?

Well, our QA is a bit different here. We send a link with each message asking the end user "Did this answer help you?" They can click yes or no. Our performance is then based on %of no responses. However, if you delete the end users message without answering, there's no chance for the user to say "no". What happens is that they will write back in a week later pissed because nobody answered their message. Then the rest of us have to deal with an already frustrated user that's now pissed because they were ignored. Sometimes we have to call these people back on the phone as well which is never fun if we've done something to piss them off. Basically the only way to get busted is for management to audit the person's work. They don't normally do this unless there's something out of the ordinary. However, once they audit someone's work all of the cheating sticks out like a sore thumb.

OK, problem is solved. I had two managers I could go to. One is more leniant and the other is a hard ass. I went to the leniant one. He won't get fired but he will not likely do it again.
