Interesting angle. Very similar to the pushing of ebonics. Everyone knows that a black person speaking ebonics isn't going to be a lawyer or politician. The hispanic community has tried the same thing by teaching their young spanish instead of english.



Who cares if there's a all black beauty pagent? I mean, with all the problems we all have (bills, work, relationships, etc) people have time to think about having an all white beauty pagent? Let the blacks have their stupid pagents. Who is that hurting?

Did The Nature Boy say there was anything wrong with hispanics teaching their children to speak spanish? No. He said there was something wrong with them teaching spanish without teaching them english when they leave in a primarily english country. It's like me moving to China and teaching my kids to speak fucking French or something. You can't expect to succeed in life if you can't even speak the language of the country in which you live. Jen, some groups are entitled to special "rights" because of every day they face special wrongs.

It's like how there are "queer pride" parades and everyone is horrified and wonders: "Why isn't there a straight pride parade?" Isn't every movie, every song on the radio, everything we see in the media a celebration of straight pride? If a man and woman having a PDA on the street is fine, but 2 men elicits all kind of bigotry, then, yeah, "queer power" is something they should demand.

Networks like BET -- isn't just about every other channel on the dial an unoffical "WET"? (Except UPN, and whatever random show that has a FEW characters.)

And "girl power"? I hate that term because usually it refers to something petty: "The Spice Girls have girl power!"; "these high heels have girl power!" But the idea behind it? Necessary.

Isn't the entitlement of specific groups to such "special rights" working in exact opposition to what the original goal is at the beginning of every group's struggle to equality?

Example: Martin Luther King. There was a problem, he had a dream - he wanted equality under law for both blacks and whites. Now we have it, yet blacks want more? Isn't that the exact OPPOSITE of what they were striving for? They want equality, yet now seek superiority? No one group is superior to another. I don't think whites should have more rights than blacks or vice-versa.

What about women? First you want to vote the same as men - fine. Then you want the same job opportunities as men - fine. Now you want to get a guy fired and arrested for asking you out on a date at work - uhhhh, HELLO??? Sexual harrasment my ass.

By reading my posts, possibly 99.9% of the population could label me as a conservative heterosexual white male bigot. Far from the truth. I'm exactly what 100% of "special" groups tricked everyone into thinking they wanted - equality for everything.

The concept of the individual is that which I hold most dear - protect that.

We do??? I just read this morning that 95% of prison inmates in NYC are black or Latino. Must just be a violent race--genetically. No social factors at work.

I said before and I'll say again: Some groups are entitled to special "rights" because they face special wrongs evere single day.

And women? For every woman on an executive board, there are three ON A DIET.

I don't want to get into this. Just saying in response to JenBFL's post: I don't think it's a "double standard" at all. You gotta consider reasons behind it.

Where do they live?

Where is it written in stone that X% of whites/blacks/latinos must be in prison at any given time? At my HS graduation, most of the people in the top 3% were white/hispanic. I guess my school was racist and threw all of the black students into the non-teach class.

Women - your point? I think that for every MAN on an executive board, there should be TEN ON A DIET. Americans, both men and women, are grossly overweight. It's wrong to be on a diet now? Holy crap.

I don't want to get into it either. Consider this: I truly do not want to argue with anyone ever. I have a dream too. My dream is that one day everyone can think logically and not think that giving one race/gender of people special rights over another simply because they belong to that group is correct. Until that day comes, I have no choice but to attack all the stupid shit I read. This post was one of those stupid shits.
