what are your cures people...

Ive so far tried several narcotics because they usually make me sleepy
otc sleep crap...tylenol pm, unisom/benadryl and a script antihistimine I have lying around

not all at once but over the course of the last week...ok...thinking about it, last 3 weeks

only thing that knocks me out is nyquill and it makes me fuzzy the next day so its out

so what am I harassing my dr for tomorrow?

xanax is out...oxys she'll do but I have em and they havent managed to make my ass sleep yet...

ive had success from time to time with:

melatonin
valerian root
chrysanthemum tea
kava kava (there are weird side effects tho, so i didnt use it more than a couple times)

and believe it or not, probably the best thing ive done for insomnia and anxiety long term is practice meditation.

benzodiazepenes are always nice, but theyre harsh on your system, lots of other non-benzo hypnotics make me feel gross also. i think you're much better off trying to exhaust the natural remedies before you turn to that stuff.

good luck, ive been dealing with delayed sleep phase syndrome for years and years, i know how tough it can be. specially if you start goin days at a time with no sleep.

i turn into a zombie.

Im starting to get a little weird from the bizarre sleep schedule and its utterly screwed my diet, work out and general mood....
I clench my jaw when i start to fall asleep but dont grind my teeth, this does however sometimes wake me up just as Im drifting off...

plus I think Im getting a sinus infection...

Im actually kinda thinking after looking around online today that Ive completely disrupted the seratonin > melatonin cycle because I have other symptoms of major carb/sugar cravings at night as well....that lately Ive been refusing to cave into and is probably exacerbating the insomnia....


as a backup plan I just got a script for tamazepam
I would think the tamazepam and the valerian probably should be mixed due to similar cns depression???

i wouldnt mix the benzodiazapenes with anything but a beer. and i cant advise you to do that because its dangerous in its own right.

everyone reacts differently to melatonin, i would start off with 1mg sublingual and work your way up to 3mg

im not sure what kind of doses they pack into valerian caps, but 1 dosage to start working your way up to 2. any more than that, id advise some independent research ;)
 
oh btw, i dunno if youve ever tried chrysanthemum tea, and it may just be my own physiology, but that stuff puts me out hard and its much cleaner than the pharmas.

yeah, mixing herbs and pharma is not wise unless you have done advanced studies in that area.. and even then it has gotten some of the best minds into deep shit.

if you have already tried melatonin and valerian root separately, then id go with a 1:1 ratio as far as dosage goes. youll probably end up with some crazy lucid dreams.

for me, chrysanthemum tea is like 20x chamomile. two cups and im totally wankered.

lemme know how it works out.
 
Under no circumstances should you mix herbs with prescription sleep medications, or even OTC sleep medications.

A lot of people are under the mistaken impression that herbs, being freely available, are harmless. That mistake has killed people or put them in the hospital.

Do not start mixing herbs willie nillie, particularly in teas or decoctions. Go to a good health food store and get the premeasured, premade combinations from reliable herbal companies that have verified potencies.

this isn't my first go around with any of the stuff mentioned I just havent used anything alternative for sleep in probably ten years? and just didn't think of it

Insomnia is huge on this board (one of the side effects of juicing). That's why I posted what I did.

Unless you've got a life stressor or something strongly interupting your sleep cycles (like apnea or snoring) insomnia of more than three weeks duration is likely to have addressable outside causes. Adrenal fatigue, toxin exposure, EMF exposure and hormonal imbalances can all screw with your sleep very insidiously.

Just some food for thought. Hopefully your problem will clear up on its own.

torn pubic symphisis with illialic joint dysfunction and a seriously fricken painful section on/under my right shoulder blade that I wont even have looked at anymore because no one can figure it out

all the above was NOT horrible on my sleep patterns, not good for sure but not totally bad

Evening primrose oil is an EFA, quite harmless for the pregnancy and good for your body.

You should also be drinking 2 to 3 cups of raspberry leaf tea these days, good for the uterus and pelvic muscles:

I agree with MM!

I have experimented over the years with many things.

2-3g of GABA about an hour before bed is good. It gives you very good dreams too.
people have mentioned melatonin and I have used that and that works a little.
Valerian root works too.
L-tryptophan is also good.

OTC sleep meds usually contain a combination of the above. I prefer single doses of each. I do not usually combine them.

Phenibut is also used by some. It didn't do anything for me. For some the effect is like being drunk but I never got that effect.

I used to like ambien but I rarely use it because it can become addicting. I use it when I really need to hit the sack though.

I also got a new script for Rozerem. I have yet to use it though. I have read mixed reviews. It is more pricey than ambien because ambien now has a generic form. If anyone has any feedback on it post up!

Try mediating too. I have sleep problems when I am stressed out and have too much on my mind. I sleep normal when I am not under stress.

Girl I'd find me a good chiropractor if I were you. If you've got something going on biomechanically that a regular MD can't fix then sometimes they can.

Are your hormones being monitored (by an endo) since the surgery?

Im actually due for more blood work coming up.....
I'm starting to get really apathetic about that, the blood work
sometimes I come back textbook perfect...sometimes it all comes back beyond fricken strange
I'm really tired of it and lately have been trying to get more balanced all the way around
sleep is really jackin up the whole program at the moment

funny you should mention a chiropracter I was just talking to someone about that on sat night......

now your just being ridiculous...these drugs help in the short term, but end up only exacerbating the problem....your severely destroying your endocrine system with multiple drugs, to get up, to go to bed, etc. etc. etc. ...........................these "EXCUSES (ie drugs)" dont work and will never....who wants to depend on something like these for life? you will end up living a life of perpetual and excessive, everlasting groginess...i am not prophesizing against drug use, by all means get high, but this type of "remedy" for this very real condition, is a dead end

FTR, I use a blend of melatonin and valarian root when I can't sleep and it knocks me out but doesn't leave me groggy in the morning.

Read all the way through and saw some good stuff. One I didn't see was magnesium. Depleted magnesium in the brain can definitely cause insomnia. Most of us don't get a lot of mag rich whole food sources and then we consume caffeinated beverages which depletes what mag we were able to acquire. It's not a quick fix, but 200mg daily of elemental magnesium may start helping after 4 or 5 days.

I seemed to remember valarian smelling vaguely like feces but wasnt sure if it was kava kava I was remembering

Yep it's messed up. I think I remember reading it's got something to do with how our bodies evolved to deal with adrenaline, which caffeine mimics. The kidneys start dumping several minerals, magnesium among them, which wouldn't be a problem for occasional bursts of adrenaline. When you're constantly charged up from caffeine though, the process never stops.

I actually considered that at one point because I have the crap in an attempt to not take my ritalin anymore (which i havent take since before he insomnia got the bad)

but really i would be happy to just drop from exhaustion at some point.....i havent worked out in like 6 days which is pissing me off because frankly...im so screwed up I will deffinately hurt the hell out of myself....
strangely i stopped being hungry like two days ago...

im going to be blatantly honest here, your on so many drugs that its causing these problems...if you take one an stop another then your body is withdrawing from the one your not takin and will cause the insomnia....actually im not suprised you have insomnia with all these concoctions....i was on vicodins for a little while and towards the end they started to energize me and not make me drowsy, i then quit, which started insomnia...im pretty good now for the most part but it hits every once and awhile...ttyl im hitting the sack, gd luck tnite
 
to go to sleep i actually used to use, 2 nyquil, 2 dramamine, 1 unisom, 1 sominex?, washed down with a beer....this would pass me out but leave me hungova the next day and groggy as fuck
 
yeah i wasnt actually on anything when this started (this time)

Ive just lately started to get to the stage where frankly...Id take anything that would close my eyes for ten minutes....and id really like to figure out what the actual problem is ...I know I havent gotten hyperthyroid again because I dont have a single other symptom...
Im certain theres an imbalance going on here with me....I just dont know what it is yet
I tried several days of nothing to sleep....still no dice and no sleep
 
Ambien did fuckall for me. Lunesta even less. Halcion is ok but I prefer Xanax. 1/2 tab between 8/9 flick on the TV for some mindless entertainment and I am ALWAYS out by 10. I have no trouble getting up between 6-7 w/zero grogginess. If I drink too then I will pass out sooner but get up around 2 with no way of getting back to sleep. So no alcohol.

I've never really tried any of the herbals remedies except once. I think it was back when GHB was legal and also tried melatonin - did NOTHING for me.

If I am up, using my brain (as is posting on chat requires intelligent thought) then I won't get tired and sleep. Just gotta lay down and turn on the boobtube - works every time.
