Work vent... Sorry

Cutiebolic

Hey guys,

Sorry to me-vent, but I need to let off some steam before I lay the hurt on someone.

I gave my notice at work a few weeks ago, effective 1/1. I was trying to be nice because I didn't want to leave my colleagues high and dry, especially heading into the holidays.

Well, since then (and I suppose not surprisingly) I've been scheduled for crappy shifts, left out of the lunch order, etc. Annoying little things that kind of add up.

I spoke to my immediate supervisor about my scheduling without any luck. In fact, he made a not so thinly veiled threat that if I rocked the boat too much it might impede my contract signing with my next place (ie they would give me a poor evaluation).

I have worked hard for this place and am generally easy to get along with and, I'd like to think, pretty fun to work with.

I don't want to shoot myself in the foot but I'm seriously considering walking away with 3 weeks left.

Thoughts?

Don't do that. Then they will have won. It's only a few weeks. Stock it out and be the bigger person. If that doesn't work, pee in his coffee.

Cutie, in my experience unless you work for a very small business announcing that you're leaving too far in advance causes problems even though you were trying to be considerate. I would lay low now until your time is up. Sorry to hear that they are being shitty, that sucks.

You are thinking like a Canadian. You need to start thinking like a Mexican. Stick it out for the next 3 weeks, just don't get any work done and don't waste any time training you replacements. We call it "short timer syndrome" here in the US.

Spend the next three weeks doing your work 100% wrong.

Look at it this way: You'll be there three weeks, but you can create months work of additional work undoing what you've incorrectly done.

Lol

Well now I'm definitely doing this

Just got called into director's office... There were 3 top dogs there

Got told my last day is 12/30, being "dismissed"

I feel like I am in grade school and my boyfriend is breaking up with me because I broke up with him

This makes no sense other than that it looks shitty for me

WTF is going on here? I have honestly done nothing wrong here. I mean, I've been a little apathetic lately but I'd say about average relative to my peers.

Did I just get fired? I thought we had already agreed on that date but the head boss acted like I had never spoken to her about it. And have you ever heard of a company firing someone but making them stay for 3 more weeks?

You might ask why I'm staying... I'm holding onto hope it will help me get another job (denial?)

This is insane

if you get fired there can be no unemployment claim

just sayin'

Everytime I quit a job I present a physical letter of resignation signed by me and take a copy I require to get signed, it's proof I decided to leave on my own.

If they let you go without cause, you'll get UE. Just don't give them a cause to fire you.

Now if you resign... you won't get UE.

And now for the fun part. First, be careful because some of the more sophisticated computer systems have audit trails. If you work with one of these systems, then make sure you're logged into someone else's account. Second, don't make all the changes in one day. You've got three weeks to pull this off.

1) Get into the purchasing system, and change the units of measure downward. Change 100's to 10. Change 50's to 5. Imagine how excited they'll be when 10 months worth of stuff arrives at once.

2) Get into the order system, and swap the bill-to and ship-to addresses. Just don't swap out a P.O. box, as that can set off red flags. If you're successful, they invoices will be sent to a warehouse somewhere and the goods themselves will be sent to the corporate office.

3) Get into the either the purchasing or order system, and change prices by miniscule amounts. So a $5.50 item gets changed to $5.25. It's not large enough to set-off alarms, but it's large enough to cause invoice discrepancies on every order.

And remember. Just have fun with it!

Great question...

Complicated answer. Basically, in my field you need to give your notice before another place will hire you.

Also, I have other positions I could take, but they all involve geographic relocation (for at least a few years) Truth be told, I was still hoping to work things out with my ex and stay local.

It's not really even close to taco bell other than the fact they're both Americanized mexican fast food.

It pwns the shit out of taco bell

Just googled it... "located throughout the Midwest and North Central US"

Interesting

Not enough to convince me to drive inland, but interesting enough to visit the website while I eat some avocado....

Unemployment is easy as shit to get unless you got someone like me on the employer's side fighting it :) What exactly do you do?

On Wednesday this week I had an outside sales rep take an office position and she put in her two weeks after her first day in training.

I had the awkward convo with her......um, thanks for two weeks but we'll be accepting your resignation immediately. Can't have her dealing with customers & whatnot, there's no motivation there.

She'll get UI, fo' sure. Sucks, but what you gonna do.

Hate it when that happens... After you work so hard for the baby, man!

Some people are so unappreciative!

she voluntarily quit so not sure how she can get UE i'd fight that one should be a easy one for the corp to win.
UE is 100% on the employer, the employer should be able to deny bogus claims like this slacker's

Trust me, you can put up with anything for three weeks. Bring your own lunch, get in, get the work done, get out and avoid office chit-chat ... and hang in there. The contract signing counts too much.

Unfortunately, this is what happens when employees try to be nice. It's seen as suspicious, not thoughtfulness. Next time, you give two weeks. When you give too much notice they start thinking your hanging around for some reason :whatever:
