Damn customs charges. I thought we had a free border.
Anyway my Captains of Crush trainer and #1 came in yesterday... just opening the plastic shrinkwrap took 5 minutes. I guess my "mayo jar" training wasn't that great.
But, soon the deadlift bar will shake with fear...

is it pretty tough bro?
i got one for my girlfriend's dad. he eats those cheap grippers for breakfast so i hope he will at least break a sweat on this one.

Hey man, I love training with grippers too, but they won't do much to increase your deadlift gripping strength. That is holding strength, and not crushing strength. Static holds are great for that (squeezing ahold of a loaded bar until it falls out of your hands for 30-60 seconds)

I just closed the #2 not too long ago...and then I caught the flu and lost like 7 pounds. Can't quite get it closed again now. I'm so f'n pissed. But I'll get it back. I'll be on the #3 and #4 lists soon enough.

I've done static holds and walked around with a couple of 35 plates in a one-hand pinch grip but I hadn't seen a big improvement. I'm trying for an overall stronger grip now. Sucks that I deadlift more than I can hold on to :(

bignate - believe they're tough, the grippers in the average store are candy. My #1 will be in the package till the New Year :)

Hm, wait...so the #1 gripper is, or will be pretty damn hard for you, but youcan pinch grip 2 35's just fine??????????
maybe its just me, but i find that weird?

This baffles me, to be honest. Are you increasing the weight every time on the static hold? If you're deadlifting 500 lbs and keep doing statics with 100 lbs, it's not gonna help. But if you can hold a 500 lb bar for 30 seconds, it certainly will.

Only the 25's are "just fine" (I can walk around slow with them for 20 s for a few sets), the 35's are tough and I didn't see much improvement after a few weeks. static holds on the Smith machine, even one-arm hangs.... but if I didn't see improvement in 3 weeks so I stopped

I finally noticed something last night while doing some research.
hold the barbell plates SMOOTH side out.... heh
no wonder I hang to the bar on my last 2 reps (4 reps) with 4 fingers, my thumb & overall grip was nowhere near trained.

I just ordered my trainer and #1 last week, they should be arriving shortly. I'm pretty sure itll take me forever just to get the trainer closed... let alone the #1.

The trainer really isn't as hard as you might think to get it closed. All I know is, training the grip thrice a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) has let my left hand get from not being able to close the trainer for 1 rep, to closing it for 2x8 and 2x12 (more possibly but I didn't try) in a matter of 2 months. Not too bad. My right hand has been able to crush this thing for 4 months now, and it's getting old. Luckily I ordered the #1 for X-mas. I'll get it within a week. Only 40 more lbs. though, so it shouldn't be too hard for the right hand. The left will need some more work, however.

fiance bought me a pair of the el cheapos at kmart today. they were $4. i'll work with them for a while, pretty much til they're easy as hell to close, then start looking into the ones you guys are talking about. my grip needs work. some good advice here about working on strengthening grip though. glad i checked this thread out!

The COC grippers will definitely help your deadlifting grip strength, but I would keep up with static holds etc as well.
