Got my DoD interview tomorrow. My friend that works out there said he thinks he got me on and I just need to do well on the interview, which should be fine. i hope. Over the last 6-9 months I've started having anxiety over things I never would have thought twice about, so let's hope I don't mindfuck myself. I just keep telling myself this is an opportunity and not an obstacle. This would be so good for me on so many levels, I just don't want to come across as too desperate. three years ago, if anyone would have told me this is where I'd be in life i would have laughed them off. Life's funny. Don't take shit for granted.

Thx nougats. I may have gotten a date out of the whole ordeal too. I went to Nordstrom to get a shirt that would actually fit my shoulders and neck and the girl that measured me was flirty. She thought Q was cute, and when Q told her to "hug my daddy" she did. She gave me her card and wrote her cell on it. Pet humans are better than pet puppies.

How was the shirt? Back in 2007 I had to go buy a suit for my dad's funeral, and it was the next day so I had to find something I could wear off the rack with no alterations. They actually had a shirt that matched my neck and arm measurements, but when I put it on the next day, it looked like it was made for someone with a 60" waist. It was a circus tent. I forgot to ask for an athletic cut shirt.

It's called a trim fit shirt, it's Nordstrom brand. It's slightly snug on my arms sometimes, but fits well. As long as I'm not going to help anyone move a dresser in a dress shirt I should be cool.

And thanks everyone.

Good work bro! You deserve it maing

What kind of position with DoD?

Originally i thought it would be a monitoring tech position saying when certain things were clean. My friend that works there as a reasonably higher level chemist said it'd probably be just monitoring dirt samples and taking notes. Samples would be from areas where diesel tanks were buried and leaked on nearby Army bases. Today I found out I'd be dealing with chemical ordinance. The worst stuff man has created. I'll be sent to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds (if hired) for up to two months of intensive training and will be trained on how to deal with possible leaks of highly toxic agents.

I think the interview went well. The guys I met with were no bullshit and really focused on work ethic, morals, and responsibility. This will make some people on here lolz, but IRL and at work I actually take these things very seriously. If I get it, I'll be paid very well, will have full benes and 401K from day one, and will have 100% tuition reimbursement for any subject as lond as it's at an accredited school. Those are the perks. The drawbacks... 60 miles each way and working a Dupont schedule. I'd literally have half the year off but would be working 48 hrs/ wk in swing shifts. If I can suck it up and live lean for a couple to a few years and just sock money away I can get a bunch of classes taken care of while I'm there and then finish school while living on savings and a PT job. Then myself and my daughter are taken care of.

I would imagine it would transfer to the private sector after you receive the requisite specialized training/experience.

Good luck!

So this job would just be a means to an end? Be careful if you think getting a degree will set you/family for life... although you wouldn't just be a kid fresh outta school with no work experience and heavy debt, so you'd probably fare better than most grads have in this economy. What schooling do you want to finish? Is it related to DOD or government-related work?

They'll pay for anything I want to take as long as it's an accredited institution, which is cool. I plan to go into nursing to be a Focker.

Lol @ Jnursin

See man, you hang in there long enough and good things will happen

Then, after a while something bad happens again, then later something good happens, not too long after that something bad, a little while down the road something good...

welcome to life!

It's all about how you deal with it.

Copious amounts of Jim Beam and self loathing doesn't work as wekk as some people will tell you.
