windows xp pro activation help

So I'm locked out from my brothers laptop cause I don't have a key for it only the cd.
Basically I need to get in there for an hour by somehow bypassing the windows xp activation screen. I need to transfer about 300 pictures that i took on my past 2 vacations so if anyone knows how I could get them outta there please share.

The damn thing said theres 2 days left to activate and when I woke up it was already locked down. I already ordered a genuine reisttalltion cd for the laptop so all I need right now is about 30 minutes to trasnfer some pics on this one

also i heard u can buy the key seperate so if anyone knows where and how plkeae let me know

version is windows xp pro 2002 built 2600

Isn't there a sticker on the bottom of the laptop with the CD Key?

why wasn't it activated when it was installed with the cd key?

even if u didn't, it'll activate it for you later on by connecting to the internet. I've never heard of a situation like yours before. it would onlty *not* activate, if the cdkey used to install it was bad.

okay let me get this clear.

My brothers laptop didnt come with the installation cds, you were suppiosed to make them through the program that was nn the laptop. I didnt know this so I just took my girlfriends windows xp cd and installed a fresh copy (he had too many viruses). She got the cd from her sisters ex boyfriend who is now in europe. In either case, the key that is on the laptop only works with the oem version and it was meant for windows media edition anyway.

The other day I was able to go in through a safe mode because some screen with the whole windows firewall crap. I was able to go through that window all the way into C drive to my pictures but I had nothing to transfer them to. Now that method doesnt work anymore so i need to find a way to get to this folder someway.

Worst comes to worse Im down to buy the cd key since it's pretty important thing to have. The problem is that it doesnt mention where I can do that on microsoft for the pro version. I will probobly call them later.

Agree, it's usually on a separate, hidden partition. To get to it, you have to hold down one of the F keys when the system boots.

Anyone know WHICH F key???

astalavista.box.sk. Do not open that site in IE, and especially any of the links. NOT WORK FRIENDLY EITHER. You can search for XP Pro key and you will get abot 15 or 20 pages of Keys. If you have a legit copy coming, you might be able to get by with an illigitimate key for a short while. If you re-install, you will not need to blow out the original install either. You can install on top and leave your files intact. App's wont run and it will be a bit of a mess, but you could at least use that to get what you need and then blow it away and start fresh. It will not destroy data in any folder outside the Windows folder.

okay well I got to the files through safe mode and sony sent me a whole new hard drive with the windows installed on it so I'm good. thanks
