Will steroids make me bald???

[Edit] Cliffnotes: There is a test you can take to tell if you are genetically prone to male pattern baldness. Not a "look at your family test", but a test checking for the actual AR receptor gene itself.

This is a question i see a lot around here.

The reason that some steroids (mainly DHT based such as anavar, masteron, proviron, primo, winny) are thought to cause hair loss is because the most common form of hairloss is Androgenic Alopecia (AGA) also called Male Pattern. This is named as such because researchers believe the androgen DHT to be the main culprit.

HOWEVER, researchers have determined that a certain variant of the androgen receptor is needed to develop AGA. This variant is a recessive gene on the X chromosome and of course hereditary. 95% of bald men have this variant. That's why you might read in a masteron profile "don't use if you are susceptible to male pattern baldness".

So ... the question came up in AA the other day, "How do i know if i'm susceptible?" Damn good question right? Well i had no idea but there is an at home test (mouth swab) you can take to see if you have the androgen receptor variant.

Here is a site that makes these tests. The link goes to the test explanation (which gives a much more in-depth explanation than I've attempted above)

Just for reference, i got the idea to search for an at home test after reading this article today on CNN.

Yes and no. Yes your will loose the hair on your head but it will grow in new and exciting areas.

I use life solutions shampoo and conditioner and there alterna product, with is a dht product. So far I like the results. Fuller and I have some new growth.

Im not really balding, just being pro active

It's all genetic, just like everything else. I had a full head of hair until 40. Then I started to get the "yamika" bald spot on the back, top. I started steroids at 46, and now I'm thinning out on top. I personally believe that steroids accelerate the hair loss process, but DO NOT cause it. Look at Jay, Arnold, Dorian, Marcus... If you go bald it's your parents fault.

if youre genetically prone then it will accelerate it.

Exactly! What i didn't know, and was trying to share, was that there is a test that tells you if you are genetically prone. That actually tests for the AR variant gene.

So i guess the point of the thread was to spread the word that if you really wanted to know, there is a way to find out. I kind of got carried away with explaining it all.

Im gonna go ahead and agree with this. Sounds right to me, genetics have to play the biggest role in it with steroids mabye accelerating the process

Not to condone usin another drug to counteract the bad effects of another, but...
I've been losing my hair for 10 yrs and finallly started taking propecia a couple yrs ago and stopped it cold.
Finished a sust/var cycle earlier this year and saw zero hair loss still. I guess if you're really concerned about it, you can take propecia or rogaine to block the dht affecting your scalp.

That is pretty cool.

:8ball:it still does not get my hair back

No shit. i've solved my personal problem with a pair of clippers. I love it though.

I created this thread so the younger guys that are worried about this can take a more proactive approach. I see guys ask about this all the time. If you take this test, and you don't have the AR gene variant, then you can feel free to take those DHT based compounds. If you do have the variant, DHT based compounds will speed up that hairloss.

+1

However, finny will (ever so slightly) effect gains. Not enough to really matter, IMO.

There's a few common misconceptions here. These are mostly due to bad adverting and bro lore:

1. propecia/proscar/finasteride/etc will have absolutely NO effect on anavar or any other DHT compound. These drugs attempt to block the conversion of testosterone to dht via 5alpha reductase. Var/Winny/Primo/Mast are ALREADY DHT.

2. Rogaine has nothing to do with DHT. It works by attempting to increase bloodflow to the scalp.

3. You will not see hairloss from a cycle. Baldness is not the result of hair falling out, its the result of follicles dying out over a period of time. As normal shedding of hair occurs these dying follicles simply do not replace their shedded predecessors. Therefore you WILL NOT see hairloss from a normal 12 week cycle. That is simply not enough time for the normal shedding/regenerating process to show an actual difference.

I've been thinning on top for the last 10yrs. slowly. So far steroids have not seemed to increase this at all. I think this is a very individual thing. I don't get any other sides either. No acne, no oily skin, no real aggression except with the weights, no gyno.

The only thing I get is big muscles, great hardons, and am horny all the time. Fat loss as well. I guess I'm lucky in this respect.

Been juicing steadily for over 2 years and have noticed significant hair loss. I have grown new hair on my back, arms and chest. Anyone whose juiced long enough knows what i'm talking about. I took a razor to my head and have never looked back. I plan on doing laser hair removal when i get funds together. Finasteride will definitely help at .5MG a day but can give you whiskey dick at higher dosages. Get viagara on hand just in case. Rogaine works for some but you can get Minoxidil much cheaper online and works the same.

It comes down to what you prefer, do you want hair or do you want muscles? Personally, I'd prefer not to be bald but, I've done two cycles of var while taking dutasteride (slightly stronger than finesteride) and Ive been fine. No hair loss whatsoever.....but I know eventually Im gonna have to deal with lossing my hair because of my genetics

Look at your maternal uncles.

Don't waste your money on these BS tests. I am not aware of any legit test that has been approved. I can guaranty you that the test is a scam.

You are better of spending the same money on finesteride/dutasteride and nizoral 2% shampoo.

If you don't have any hair loss yet, you may lose hair on the cycle (if you are vulnerable), but most likely the hair will grow back in a few months.

I hear ya!...I have hair growing everywhere, but my head.

I've turned into fucking Saskwatch.

I have hair growing out of my delts !!!

Look fellas, if it's coming out, it's coming out.

NOTHING, short of a hair transplant, will save it. Deal with it.
