Why won't lap top boot up with new memory???

This is an old IBM ThinkPad PIII that I bought to back up my P4.

It has PC100 SDRAM.

PC133 is considered backward compatible with PC100 so I thought little of installing it. PC100 and PC133 are generally advertised together from what I have seen.

IBM ThinkPad A22m is the model I have.

Any ideas?

sometimes you have to go into BIOS (that black writing bullshit you see before it boots, that tells you to press "DEL" or "F8" or whatever to get into the screen where it lists all your motherboard options), and select the option that will make sure your motherboard runs the ram at 100 not 133. sometimes, if the ram frequency is set at "auto detect" it will shit itself unless you specify that it should run it at 100.

also, when you say it wont boot, what do you mean? do you see anything on the screen at all? or does it freeze when it starts booting into windows?

cheerios

Nothing at all on the screen. Nada.

Had to go into BIOS when I put 2 gb in my lap top. Thing is still slow. Lap tops suck in the speed department.

Thanks for the effort bor.

nothing at all? dead screen? try reseating the new ram. sometimes when you put ram in it doesnt make contact properly, and the whole system shits itself and refuses to post (post = black and white writing. boot = windows or whatever) if that doesnt work, you either have dead ram, incompatible ram, or too much ram for your system to handle wiht whatever bios youre using

How much RAM did you install? The A22 series will only accept a maximum of 512M, did you try to use more? Just be sure that the SODIMM or SODIMMs are seated properly in their sockets, and that those little springy fingers are holding them down properly.

I've got an A22m, PIII/1G, maxed out with 512M of Crucial RAM. It's a kickass old laptop.

my computer nearly died on me tonight. I think I need to build a new one. The fan on the memory card on this one died and the card is heating up so much it locks up the chip!

Wouldn't that be the video card?

yeah, that's what I meant, the video card. Damn thing has a 300 gig hz processor and 64MB of ram on it.. has a heatsink and fan and the fan died. shit hot as hell, just a matter of time until total failure.

So replace the fan. I'm sure you can find one at CompUSA.

A22m...same here. I like it....seems sturdy as hell.

I bought 256x2...the right amount. Tried them a few times as well.

Did you buy PC100 or PC133 memory? PC133 is SUPPOSED to be backward compatible.
