Why train?

Bran987 said:
I disagree with whoever said BB won't make you live longer. That may be true for some people, but not me.

When I stopped lifting and paying strict attention to my diet, I felt no need to prevent myself from indulging... in anything. Why not? Already look like shit.. what's one more beer. Why not get high and eat about 300 cool ranch doritos?

I drank more, A LOT more, ate more fast food, more chips & queso before the fajitas get to the table (whereas used to have none).. more half&half in the coffee (whereas used to drink black).. sure why not have some fries with my burger (used to feel guilty for having even 1 fry!) why? because I didn't have to worry if I'd be able to lift more the next week in the gym, or if my abs were going to disappear. I gained 10 lbs. of fat in a matter of less than a year (with no muscle)

When I'm bodybuilding, getting stronger and bigger, or leaner and attempting to keep strength, everything in my life becomes healthier, because I have goals to work towards with my body.

Sure it's about vanity, but I'm sure if I didn't bodybuild, my life would be MUCH shorter. It keeps me strong enough to avoid overindulging. A lot of us are obsessive compulsive, or we couldn't be as good at this as we are. This keeps me obsessive compulsive in a positive direction. I admit my weaknesses.

Maybe yoga and meditation will make me live longest, but BB makes me live BEST :)

Hard work and dedication is the key of success in BBing

Lifting will make you live longer ?
Depends on what you "eat" (food and supplement and juice) and your heart (intense training may be harmful)

I was just saying it will make me live longer because when I'm not lifting, I tend to drink alcohol, eat unhealthier, not pay attention to sleep. I was just talking about why I lift, like the thread said.

Never done juice yet, I agree that could present longevity problems.

I train because I like to feel strong. I like to be able to jump higher and sprint faster and throw further and punch harder. And thats why I train for strength and explosive , don't really care about muscle shape or stuff, but I'm glad that the side effects of being stronger is that you will usually look good, not too big just powerful.

Haven't seen proof yet that a death was directly related to steroid use.

However, abuse of ANY drug(s) can be harmful to your health.

lol!

I lift to be strong AND to look strong. But if I could just have one or the other, it would be the actual strength. I just LOVE not being helpless.

self discipline, fun, vanity

also two great quotes by you guys some it up well

My body is the one thing I have near total control over. It is my project, my unmolded clay to make into that which I desire it to become. I am the master architect, and my body is my piece de resistance. It reflect must reflect my highest values; it must reach for perfection.
Because one day you may have to stand up and fight for what you beleive in, or protect those who you care about. There are people in this world who put their trust, faith, and life in your hands- how can you sit back and not be able to protect them, you betray their trust.... Because in the long run I don't want to be saying what if I had just a little more strength.......

The intimidation factor certainly is an awesome one, I dont remember the last time I was fucked with. After 6 years lifting is just routine, its balance, its what I do during the day.

Summed up:

Look strong
Feel strong
Hot chicks
Stress relief/anger management

Be strong, and a capable man. A lot of my friends are out of shape and I see how it effects them both physically and mentally. I also do it for the health reasons, to keep my body functioning and not letting the old rough and tumble world take its toll on me. Oh and i love to eat, this way i can eat more and not gain as much fat:):)
