Vanity seems a bad reason, as the more serious you get the less most women are attracted, read "turned off". Innumerable singles ads begin with "no bodybuilders" in my area. . . It is much easier to get a brad pitt/etc body with a fraction of the work as real bb.
And while modest resistance prolongs functional strength in age, most old bbs or pls look like crap. A big body weight (fat or no) has been shown to decrease life expectancy in prospective studies. And if you factor in anabolic, cholesterol probs, hair loss, acne/skin aging, tanning . . . Fact is, to live forever you should eat vegetables only/sprouts and do yoga and long hikes all day in between meditations. Bodybuilding's not about the future -- it's about the here and now
Like most I started for sport (wrestling) and the lifting took over.
But this is a good thread, as I was just wonder what my goals were with all this as I was driving home just now. I originally wanted to compete, but looking in the mirror, I have size and low BF, but I am old, hairy with all sorts of scars and lumps of poorly healed bone from fighting, and I've had to admit the last week or so that BB is not a real option (50 Cent : "I'm not a pretty nigger, but my mom thinks I'm handsome . . . ") I have decided to do pl meets to challenge myself and chart my progress.
I guess I like to feel strong and I like to challenge myself, and that's all I have left! That's all it takes to keep me going!
