Why is the rest of the worlds opinion of the US negative?

It does not bother me. It is just a way for those countries governments to keep their people down and keep them from being angry at them.

Actually I think we used to be loved alot more worldwide than we are now...."jealously" is a very simplified understanding and actually part of the attitude that is part of the problem.

ie, You, (we) assume arrogantly that it is simply jealousy and rarely pay attention to anything beyond that...IMO the muslim hatred for us is born partially out of that....but also admittedly it IS an issue of a suppressed people misdirecting their anger

Good point, misdirected anger. I can only imagine the frustration of being suppressed like they are - it would become quite easy to blame and hate.

There are plenty of reasons. The US has never done itself any favours image-wise, but as an non-American, I can't help but respect and admire the the pride it instills in its people.

I see patriottism and nationalism as wrong by definition.
You dont make your kids say a pledge and keep on and on saying stuff about the american people, america this america that we are so good in every speech.
I dont like the free enterprise at all costs mentality. I dont think its humanist in many ways. (not that its limited to the usa in any way, but people there seem to consciously support it)
I`m also against the war in Iraq.

then theres "globalisation" which is becoming forced and is really just American expansionism.

I also dont like how conservative you guys can be. you call yourself the most forward country and stuff and people need to modernise etc when at the same time you have Dr Phil on national tv saying oral sex is really just one person using another person and it is bad.
if someone sayd that on tv in holland on a commercial network he would get the boot that same day because nobody would want to listen to him anymore anyway.
