Same-sex interactions have been long condemned by Christianity but they were not pathologized as illness until the latter half of the 19th century, when homosexuality became an identity rather than a behavior. Why this happened is subject to a lot of speculation but it mainly pertains to the breakdown in family organization at the time of the Industrial Revolution. When people became free to engage their desires more liberally, desire became clustered around identity.

Even still the view of homosexuality as an illness didn't become popular until the time of the Second World War. At that time, men had even more freedom to engage their desire and a counter movement began to pathologize homosexuality and to fix masculine identity. Freud was reinterpreted in this country to legitimate that.

You implication, that homosexual acts have been universally condemned for good reason is the popular belief unsubstantiated by even the most cursory examination of history -- whether you look at ancient accounts or Foucault.

being a homophobe is wrong, in my opinion, because it IS a psychological imbalance. if you DETEST something that much then you need to dig around in your own brain and figure out what it is that is bringing about this intolerance.

You have been using the infection of AIDS among gay people as an argument to support condemnation of homosexuality. (Do I need to re-quote you?) I am asking you a real simple question: Do you likewise condemn heterosexuality because of its incidence among that population in Africa and India?

The question reveals, despite your continual citing of CDC, complete ignorance of the way epidemics work. They gain a foothold in a community and then, because members of that community fuck one another, they tend to stay inside the community. Moreover, viruses mutate to preserve their persistence in the community.

Syphilis and gonnorhea, for example, tend to be much more prevalent among straight people in this country than among gay people, for the reason that YOU PEOPLE engage in much more unsafe sex.
