Why does Nelly wear a piece of tape on his face?

rap seems to breed materialistic people, whereas rock is all about thwarting the big corperate people, rap is about having money and ho's I know this one kid that I go to school with that every day he wears a different baseball cap to school, it may be from the same team but the logo has so many styles he can wear the hat of one team for a year and never wear the same hat. This just shows how rap is more geared toward the rappers making money, than to it really being an art. The only art most mainstream rappers are good at is the art of selling out.

Ok you polishhammer you misinterpreted me slightly but not very much. I never said no other musical artists didn't branch out with other businesses. I merely said no others have been as successfull as those two business men.

No of course I do not believe most of these guys are running every aspect of the different businesses they own/invest in. Common sense would say that is physicaly impossible. Take the popular fashion advisers, of course they have outsiders helping them. However that really is moot considering how many billions of dollars are made every year by consultants for big corporations. You cannot tell me a billion dollar tech company is full of a bunch of idiots simply because they hire outside consultants to help improve business. Therefore the whole theory of "dumb rappers just getting help cause they got money" is kind of silly considering everybody else gets help cause they got money too.

As far as how does money and intelligence connect between Puffy and Master P. Well how would you describe them? A couple of lucky dumbies? Ok maybe I should have said "strong business talent, and extremely hard workers." So lets not get off in semantics games about the webster's dictionary true definition, cause we will be here for a week when you know and I both know the point I was making. If I had said "that shows they are not a couple of lazy idiots" The meaning would have been the same, but you prob wouldn't have said the whole "well how does money equal intelligence."

As far as the whole materialism/ bling bling goes, there is nothing even remotely new in that. That isn't even worth talking about. I am not putting rap above any other genre of music. I am more pointing out that the stereotype of dumb rappers is dumb itself. Rap music is extremely popular, and it is a fact that more people involved in this industry are breaking off with other investments than most other genres. Then again maybe I am biased because that is the genre I am most familiar with. Even if am wrong on that point, it still doesn't mean that rappers are a bunch of fools.

Making music isn't easy. It takes a lot of talent and hard work. Many of those people who make it in the music industry are people talented in many different ways and very hard working people. I won't say intelligence anymore, because everybody and there momma on here wants me and others to start administering Mensa IQ tests. That what these silly little arguements are really about.... me(and others who have said similar things) proving such and such person has a high intelligence. We don''t have Mensa IQ tests, and niether do any of you. So now that we have gotten that out of the way, get the fuck over it people.

The next thing you know we are going to be arguing about whether succesfull people are really just dumb because the circumstances of their life growing up caused them to have the personality and work ethic they have. Was it nurture or was it nature? LOL

To whoever said

"Its a black thing you wouldnt understand"
If everyones gonna flame the guy for that, then i should probably give him some support and admit that I laughed at that.

Fuck, while im getting myself flamed for supporting this guy

I think the whole rap image is riddiculos. I think the fact that every single black kid on my street has lost every last ounce of individuality and traded it in for a band-aid brand bandage on their cheek, and a 12.00 tin dollar sign, and a pair of airforce ones is pretty fucking riddiculos.
I think its unfortunate that i laughed at "its a black thing and you wouldnt understand" thinking "ha, its so true". Thats a sad state of affairs. When you can pass off acting like someone else as being a black thing. Its sad that commercialized hip hop has so much emphesis on being "black music" in the first place. and all the non-black players in it are called "wiggers, chiggers, chigros or rotten eggs" by the uneducated masses. Who if they had a clue what real hip hop was all about would know that its gone far beyond being "black music". (btw, for anyone who dosent know a chigro stands for chineese negro, and rotten egg basically means an asian kid thats yellow on the outside and black on the inside) I mean its at the point now, where its like calling a black guy playing basketball, some whiteman wannabe. Afterall it was invented by a white guy. My point? we live in an intergrated society, so cultural inventions are shared. If you want to limit them to one group, then your supporting racial segregation. So for all of you who are about to call me a racist, you better have read that last line, and include it in your rebutles when you quote me. Because that best sums up my beliefs.

Ontop of all this, this commercial hip hop bullshit not only compltely abandoned the real essence of hip hop, but is misinforming many of who would normally would have been oblivious individuals. And Speaking as a dedicated hip hop head and breaker who is very active in my cities hip hop scene. Id much rather see people totally unaware of the word, without any preconceptions. Then have them comming to jams expecting to see MCs rollin up in Lincolns, instead of getting off the 97. Let alone actually hearing lyrics that represent some serious skill and practice... Unless you consider "Holla Holla" skilled.

Surprisingly good post!!

Ill simplify my point, Im not sure if i made it clear enough.
And intended no offense by saying that if it came out that way.

Someone else has taken the marketability of these characters and their genre and expanded their bussiness for them.
