Why does my internet service keep bogging down?

test boy ii

New member
The internet is a super highway when I have a new computer. Within three weeks, it invariably just quits working for close to a minute at a time.

The reason is that msn.exe is using about 99% of my CPU.

Hard to get anything done.

I keep checking for viruses and spyware...and find nothing.

Hey tt...

I asked friends... they had 2300 pics taken...

2300 taken or 2300 photos delivered? One can figure on 5-20% not being worth printing for various reasons.

Was there more than one photog?

Was it a big, long wedding/reception?

Thanks

Dang...were they wealthy?

Two days would cost big bucks.

It's a government conspiracy.

As soon as we figure out your IP address, our tech warriors incrementally downgrade your access. you should apply a tinfoil deflector beanie to your access point to reduce any effects.

Hey Test, I had MSN and the same thing happened to me. It ran very slow. I finally went to highspeed. Good luck

Thinking of a D80 and d200 Tboy. Have you shot either of them? I haven't messed much with Canon digital.

Stick with Nikon if you have Nikon glass. Their cameras are lighter....one day you will consider that a blessing I think.

Nikon tends towards blue. Canon tends towards red.

I heard from a good source.

Get Image Stabilized lens when you can. Tripods suck.

Micro center had 4 GB flash cards for $80 last month. Damn.

Are you really a big fan of IS? I like faster glass and a mono if needed personally. All things change though. I will never give up my home darkroom though, a nice, peaceful place that is just not equated on a comp.

Haven't heard the warm/cool thing yet for digi. Just film really. 4gb for 80 is a deal, damn is right.

If you are shooting action with a high shutter, IS isn't worth it, IMO.

Low light with a slower shutter, IS can be a god send. Even with a fast prime, IS can come in handy.

I think the Canon digital SLR's are better, but like T-Boy, I agree, if you already have lenses, stick with the Nikon.

Agreed, lens inventory can be a huge driver in your decision making.

Depends on what you are doing. I do low light events for several hours.

Slinging around several pounds is OK...unless you have another event the next day.

Why? Canon's big claim used to be pixels, before that is was autofocus.

What makes you think their digi equipment is better now?

When I was shooting and making a living off it, you couldn't beat Canon's auto for sports. weddings it isn't that important but theen people were saying the quality of glass for Canon was better.

The 5D, if you can afford it is best, because the cameras CCD sensor array is comparable to the size of a full frame 135 negative. You get less noise in low light and action situations. If you are doing a lot of still photography like wedding photos, it isn't going to help you much. I work for EK, and I know a lot of what went into the Canons, which explains a lot of my bias.

Besides Tboy any of you ever earned a living from shooting or are you hobbytogs? Just curious.
I appreciate all of your input.

Not a full living, but I've earned enough this fall to pay off a 1DMKIIN, 85 1.8L, and a 70-200 2.8L.

I'm hamstrung by the amount of time available to shoot and do my normal job.

get the 50 1.0 from canon.

Based on the amount of sports shooting I do I'd rather by a 400L (prolly 4.0) first, then a street zoom.... then another short prime. I've got the plastic 50 1.4 and it works suprisingly well though the focus is slow and sloppy on that lens.

The 200 1.8 is a good option for now, get a 1.4 and 2x extender. They will serve you well.

Yeah, I'd love a 200 1.8 but I can't afford that right now.

A 1.4 extender stays glued to my 70-200 most of the time.

70-200 is an outstanding lens.

Capa said if you can't shoot it with a 50mm, you are not close enough. Make yourself become an outstanding photog. You already have my respect for flying.

Hey, I'm working on it... :) I just rented Dean Collins 4 DVD series on lighting. Awesome stuff. Part of my kids allowance is derived from sitting in my lighting setups, lol.

Photography is really not a hobby, it is an obsession. Basic lighting is easy. So much fun to learn in this obsession isn't it?

Now if I can only learn an engine out approach to mins...

Hah! Don't fall behind the power curve :) ..or channelize on your crosscheck

LOL, I can shoot an engine out approach to mins. I still need my multi though.

My friggin instructor used to fail an engine all the time on me shooting ndbs during my private. Flying is the biggest high in the world. period.

Look into the ML-500 dye sub printer for your portrait work. We've been using Sears as a test market for them in J-ville, and they are working out quite nicely.

Having an engine no-shit fail is an even bigger high :)

What's the cost per image on that?
