why does my DVD player register 'no disc'?

ok, its a DVD player integrated into a TV. I insert the DVD, wait and see the message 'loading disc'

the DVD whirs....slows, speeds, slows and does this a couple more times, then flashes up the message 'no disc', even though one is inserted

Its the right reigon, no other DVDs or CD's work and i cleaned the DVD's, they are not particularly scratched and in excellent condition and have worked on it before and in other players

the manual said to let any condensation evaporate by leavin it in standby for 2hrs but seeing as it was off all night i dout this is it. other than that, the DVD tray had dust on it when it came out and the loading mechanism looks dirty as well (Its at my family home so I'm not the one cleaning it)

do u think it is because the lens is dirty, and if so whats the best way to clean it? with the cheapness of DVD players nowadays should i just buy a new one if that is the cheaper option? manual says i should only let a proffessional clean it but is there anything elso wrong with it or some sort of self cleaning kit?

thats what you get for getting a DVD/TV integrated pos.

if you want a quality DVD player, buy a quality DVD player. if you want a qualtiy TV buy one. if you buy a budget POS TV/DVD combo then don't expect it to be made of quality parts or last very long.

that was harsh ripper and not always true they should have to stand behind there product. I hope that he got a warentee...

got an entire entertinment system very cheap, but then again i wasnt the one buying it and was against it for the reason i had never heard of the manufacturer

still i will find out if it is under warranty, if not looks like im repairing or buying. stoopid TV...i cant believe a sodding laser is that tempremental

Is it on all discs or just some? Is it old?
Some of the older (2+ years) can't read all DVD/CD's and most home burned stuff.

My DVD player, toshiba something or other, that I bought early 2002 and rarely used (misplaced it when I moved) died when I found it a year later after I had bought another and went to use it. It had not been used more than a half doozen times and was out of warranty.

on all discs (mum reports CD's dont work and i tied 2 DVD's one of which it has played successfully before)

its about 1-2 years old...im hoping its more like 1 year old as t will still be under warrantly but it seems unlikely

Never buy combo units. No DVD/VCR combos, no DVD/TV combo, no printer/scanner/fax combos. At least that's my stance. One part usually goes bad way before the other does then you are left with a product that's not fully functional.

The cheap DVD players tend to be better about playing bootleg DVDs. I got a $40 DVD player at home in Philly, that plays any kind of DVD I put in.

What brand of combo do you own? I bought a Samsung dvd/tv combo from a guy in the barracks in Okinawa. Works great, and plays DVD-R's as well.

AHhhhh.. .I have a sony ES 7700 or some shit...

$1100 bucks... the drive stopped spinning the disk... it sounds like it is, but it doesn't.

Could be that, the laser, or other electronics... in yours.

never heard of it myself....I idnt want to get a DVD combo just because if the TV gets bumped the DVD components get to act as the shock absorber.

A decent enough DVD player (brand i've heard of) is about the price of a meal and a decent night out with drinks and a club over here so I wouldnt be against just getting that, all depends o what the repair bill would be

Don't even try to have it fixed, Full warrenty coverage states 90days parts & labor coverage
after that parts are warrented for 1 yr.you pay the labor which will be between $50.00- $75.00 in most places.
I won't even take the cover off for less than $60.00
