About the whole card thing that was mentioned earlier... It was just my best friends birthday and instead of buying her a card, I made her one on my computer that consisted of pictures of us together and a little saying. It was very obvious it was home made. At the end of the night, all the other cards got trashed along with the wrapping paper, my card is sitting up in her room and made her cry when she got it. I seriously spent 2 cents and 10 min. on something that made her so happy she cried. That kind of stuff means more to women than you could ever imagine.

Being unique, creative and original will be remembered and much more sentimental than generic. I think the point is, however you choose to express yourself or your feelings about someone, it's a good thing. You don't do it out of hopes for reciprocity or because it is expected, you do it because you want to share that inner special part of yourself with someone else.

I recant on this statement. I'm not cheap. That's just others opinions and your welcome to them. I choose to look at things differently. I have given money to children in stores because they looked poor. I use to always put my change in the Starving Children jar at Wyatt's Cafeteria. Maybe I'm just not romantic. I have always been careful with money, I don't want people spending money on me for shit that I don't need to make me feel special. Give me time instead. Take the money that you would spend on me for a fucking flower or gift and give it to the poor. And when you are in debt, every 10 dollars you spend is really more like 100 if you are in credit card debt. The poor have to pay more for the same product. That's wonderful.

Well, for me flower picking is a big deal. I have been with my fiance for 5 years this april and she absolutely loves roses. When I pick out her roses I go through every fickin one to make sure I have the best in the store. She has saved every rose I have given her and her room is filled with the memories we have had together. Most of them have poems, stories or simple I love you's that we periodically go through and remember our times together. I hope to buy a huge glass door cabinet when we are married to display all of her beautiful roses. I didn't do it because I had to, but because I felt like she deserved something special. Everytime I picked out her flowers and wrote her cards I got tinggles thinking about the reaction it would give her. I get as much out of it as she does. But I too agree that it is not the value that makes a difference.

If I had the money I'd buy him the watch. The Lexus would be wasted as he doesn't have a driver's licence (grew up in a city with extensive underground railway). Shit, one of the nice things if you have a lot of money is being able to buy nice pressies for people, isn't it? This year I have a proper job instead of being a phd student so I ahve bought my family nicer stuf than I was able to before, feels good!
