Having said that, I find it even funnier when a man feels that they should somehow get gold stars on their foreheads every time they change a diaper or pick their kid up from school as if they did something above and beyond...

Anyone who decides to become a parent OWES THEIR KID(S). period
agreed

the whole term "good parent" is wack and misleading
just because you raise a child does no make you good or special, it is the least you can possibly do, it's your fucking kid.
it's like claiming I'm a good dog owner, i feed my dog everday!!@#yaya!#!@#!
lol..true, but lol :lmao:

maybe its because they see so many misbehaved children around and they are just proud that theirs are not like that....I dunno.......but then, eveveryone that has a child thinks they are good parents, even though it may not look like that in other peoples eyes

Okay question...

for the parents..

When people come up to you random people and compliment your kids dont you feel a sense of pride?

when i was growing up random ppl in the neighbourhood would compliment my parents im sure it made them feel great.

I guess my Southern upbringing taught me different values than some of the other parts of the US. We were taught to HONOR THY FATHER AND MOTHER. We were taught to respect our elders. You do owe your mother and father respect. They put aside their personal needs and wants out of love for you. They deserve respect for that. You don't let your mom and dad go to a nursing home; you don't let them spend holidays alone; you don't curse at them; and you act in a way to make them proud. Yes, they deserve it and more.

well, of course, there is no doubt about it. The weird thing is that when a parent, random parent, compliments your child...you feel obligated to compliment back at his/her child too

When, I lived with my ex-bf, I put MTV on parental block. Those shows like Next, Sweet 16, etc are TERRIBLE! I can't believe parents let their 11 year olds watch that CRAP. Yeah, his kids hated me because I was the first person in their lives to care enough to every say no to them.

i have to say something on this...if your southern upbringing was so special and better than those elsewhere, how come you are having a child w/ no dad? that doesn't sound like the southern morals and traditions that you speak of
