Why do people try to discourage you...

Well I'm the "Buff One" around people and sometimes people tell me I have no life... Like wtf... Today i was hanging out with people, and they said oh look at you.. you have no life.. GYM is your home.. assholes around me...

Have any of you ever been "made fun of" because of lifting?

I have, and I'm only 6 foot 190 lol! I'm telling you they are just jealous, the guys who were saying that to me even admitted later that he was just trying to find a way to tear me down somehow because he had nothing on me lol! Just call them fat lazy unmotivated fucks and they will shit their mouths. (actually don't do that they will hate you even more)

Most of my friends that are not into big weights train for endurance (marathoners, Tri-athletes) or are part of the crossfit/plyo crowd. I am constantly getting grief from them about how I am going to injure myself, or how I am not going to be able to walk later in life. They also tell me how being big is so unhealthy - I'm 6'1" 265 17%bf.

I just wave them off, shrug my shoulders and know that while they are misinformed, their intentions are well placed.

I also seem to be the first one they ask when they need help moving something, or doing heavy manual labor.

bblazerthe tri guys and runners must be the back of the pack dudes, cause as a former runner, swimmer, semi pro hockey player, currentv bicycle racer, and even though i'm 6' 145, i train super hard at the weights, and admire the big natural stroing men and bodybuilders. its part of the game.
at mile 80 of a pro bike race, i'm so glad i do 100 pullups 2 times a week. just cause your thin dosent mean you cvan do endurance sports. to be up front, you gotta train like a pro. lift and do the hours in the pool or running or riding. these clowns must be the wekend warrior wimps.

Haha yes indeed, that happens to me all the time. Well thanks guys, I havent thought of it in your perspectives. Its kinda funny though.. When I bulk and get to 15% BF.. My close friends/relatives start telling me to slow down.. "I'm afraid you're gonna get the fat gains out of control, and will become obese." It would be nice if everyone would be educated about Body Building.. wouldn't it?

who cares if they say that

i get it all the time, im 5'10 and 220 pounds with about 11%bf so i get it ALOT

though i usually get comments like, 'which bum cheek you inject today? 'or 'what you running?' etc etc, all about steroid usage

which i find ignorant and rude, its like walking up to a chick with massive tits and asking 'which doctor did your boob job?'

either way who cares, i personaly look at it in a positive way

becuase they ALL notice your physique, and thats what you wanted, unfortunaly they need to make rude comments about it

but its like a man driving a ferrari, everyone notcies and admires, but they all make a ocmment like 'drug money,' 'inherited' 'rich boy' etc, when most likely that person worked hard for it

dont worry yourself about it

if they werent making comments ud be complaining about how no one has noticed ur changes, and ud feel like even more shit

so just enjoy the comments becoz people are notcing your hard work

Yeah, I love how they always boil ever thing down to steroid use!

Yeah, if all you had to do was take steroids and presto you had a nice physique
everyone would be walking around buffed.

They disregard all the hard hours in the gym and sacrificing we do by eating bland food
every 2-3 hrs.

I know people that take AAS and look worse on them then they do natural!
Why? because they have no discipline to eat right and no dedication to train hard!
They think the drugs are going to do all the work, wrong! AAS are just a peace of
the puzzle.

I have a friend who takes ASS and eats fast food and drinks alcohol 3 nights a week
and wonders why he can't get into shape! Then accuses me of taking a ton of sauce
because I get into shape in the summer.

I perfectly ignore those comments because I know the real truth.

The people telling you that, are "controllers", and are have personality disorders whereby they must knock down those around them. We all meet people like that, and unfortunately, it's usually a parent or older sibling. I have a few of them among friends, and you have to make a choice on how to deal with it. You can either get them out of your life (clearly the best choice if you can), or you can "manage" them. What I mean by that is to not allow them to do that to you. Even if you act like it's not bothering you, it IS, and you might not even feel it. It can come out by you not doing as well at something, or depression, etc. You have to truly deflect it back on the one doing it, and it's really more tricky than I can explain here. A few tips I could give, would be NEVER defend yourself against those downing remarks. As soon as you say "F**K you; I DO have a life, and it's better than yours... You WISH you had my body!!!", you're letting them get their controlling thrill because they got to you. I might say "That's odd; So I don't have a life, you mean? Hmm". Or if they say "You're just in shape for 'roids... Anybody with money can do that". Just answer calmly; "Oh; is that what you heard?". If they say "Well are you on something?", you say "What do you mean?" They say "Well, I'm worried about you". You say "Why?" Answer them with another question in stead of a defense. It will bust their balloon eventually, if it works, and they'll learn that they can't get to you anymore. People don't realize how someone doing that to you can hold you back for your whole life. It can start by your Dad saying "Sure you got an A on that test, but you still only got a B on the other thing... You're MY son, you're smart, and I know you can do better". Now when you don't REALLY look at that statement, it almost sounds like a positive pep talk. It's NOT! It's a damning blow to the kid's self esteem. and that attitude will destroy a kid's ability to grow up and be successful. And who the F*** are they to judge YOU anyway?

With that said, I will also say that sometimes these people honestly think that poking you with snide put-downs will help you in some twisted way. That makes it much harder for a good person to give his/her controlling relatives the boot.

Keep up the good work, and only YOU are your own judge.

Nah.

One of them won his age group in Hawaii and placed 17th overall, and the other is a sub 3 hour marathoner.

They just like giving me grief.

I get it ALOT not always bad usually people joking around saying stuff like do you have a shrunken dick from all the steroids lol. Compared to the average kid at my school I have an extra 40lbs or so on in bodyweight than them so I am quite alot bigger than all of my friends. I get comments like that alot but strangely I get more nice comments from guys than girls (no homo)

Same here. I think it's because a lot of guys want to look like us, and if they're cool and don't act weird or jealous, we probably would help them out. There's NO DOUBT that girls check me out a whole lot more, and usually don't say anything. Straight guys just glance, and ask where I work out, or something. The jealous guys without any self-discipline to accomplish what we have, are the ones who down us and make accusatory jokes.

The dudes that try to discourage people are the ones that are fat and out of shape. Like someone mentioned previously, it is somewhat like a personality disorder. They try to make themselves feel better and make false accusations as an excuse for their shortcomings.
