WHY CARDIO makes you FAT!

10 would be tough for a lot of guys who do cardio.

My cholesterol is 160. resting HR is 65. BP is 120/70. So where's the detrimental effects of no cardio? But wait a minute...I do work my heart. I lift weights! I also walk and ride a bike. A real one. I just think it's ridiculous to go to a gym to walk on a treadmill or ride a stationary bike and call it exercise.

Also, if you want to use primitive man as an example, they had to walk, and use bursts of energy. There was absolutely no reason for them to jog. They also slept more than modern man.

In basketball, we used to have to do 10 * 5 at full speed. Now that was brutal. That was just one run too.

I got pretty good at running stairs, because at my ex-gf's I'd always get so frustrated in her apartment building, so I'd run up and down the 16 flights of stairs till I was ready to drop dead.
 
Nelson, you and i do the same type of cardio, i also lift weights, walk, and ride a bike. Amazing that we engage in exactly the same types of exercise and argue so much! :)

Perhaps, as the line goes, "what we have here is a failure to communicate!"

If you re-read the ORIGNAL article posted on this page, you will find that the author offers lifting as a better alternative to cardio. He uses that point THROUGHOUT his article. ...For the next few pages after the article, people argued about cardio vs. weightlifting, cardio vs. diet, and colorful opinions of the author...

As far as the article I posted from AJCN, other (much older and widely known) research shows people with more muscle DO burn fat faster than the average person....I can post some articles about the research if you want to read them, but I thought that point was blatently obvious to everyone who knew anything about biology. A resonable conslusion from that is that lifting will be more effective at burning fat than cardio will.

I hope this has made things more clear.

And this is why people lift and do "cardio", lift for muscles, which help burn calories, and make them look good, or whatever other reasons..

cardio-aerobic exercise for heart benefits and burning EXTRA calories.
 
Heart benefits? I love pseudo scientific conclusions. 45 minutes of fast paced Weight lifting till you are wet with sweat like you strepped out of the shower will give me all the Heart benefits i need. No need to run.

I proved it to myself by training like this for 6 weeks then went running, i did a 8 minute mile having done NO cardio to build up endurance and i weigh abtut 240 lbs at 6'3. Needless to say it's harder for me to move then most.

I find cardio to be unnecassary but not useless. Cardio in conjunction with weights gets me overtrained real fast, like within a week i will loose muscle and look fat, and that's with HIT style spronts. That beign said i just use weights to accomplish the same thing.

how is it psuedo science? exercise for the heart has been well documented...

but you're right you could acomplish this with weights... so what.. When I do weights, I like to do heavy weights with about 2 min breaks between sets, not short breaks, light weight, high rep.. so for heart exercise I'd prefere to do say a run, some time on my exercycle or perhaps some type of sport.

if you like doing the fast paced weights, then fine, that's YOUR ideal way of doing exercise for your heart, and or fatloss. NOT MINE, and it's by no means psuedo science.
