Why are threads moved into forums that almost no one ever reads?

as of a few minutes ago there were 200 people viewing Chat, and exactly 5 viewing the movies forum.

Twenty minutes ago I searched this forum to make sure no one had previously started a thread about a movie I saw last night. No one had, so I started a new thread. Ten minutes later it was moved to a movies forum where none of you will ever see it, even though its a movie a lot of you have heard about and you might like to see someone else's take on it.

I think the very fact that I didnt even think to search that forum first for this movie is evidence that very few of us are even conscious of many of these newer forums, and those of us that are aware choose not to use them because they are ghosttowns.

The idea that moving threads into these new forums will somehow make us start using them was been proven to be a complete flop. Most of us dont think of them, we dont use them, and we are not going to use them.

I've noticed some moderators allow ostensibly off topic threads to remain in Chat long enough at least for those currently viewing at least see the thread before moving it to what amounts to the recycle bin. Why dont all of them?

People who really are interested of movies will check the movie forum, and all threads there.

Its almost the end of the month, someone is really trying to break the required quota for moved threads and win the prize.

They should change the "forum for non-bodybuilding talk" language they have under the link for C&C to the "forum for talk we don't already have a forum for".

Every other forum besides C&C in the lifestyle forums should just be labeled "C&C Archive" and then inside would be the music, entertainment, etc forums. Archiving would begin when a thread hasn't been viewed in C&C for 2 days. I think this would help.

we need to do something about this but what?

qreat question, sponge. You are a paying member, contact admin and simply tell them this is a policy you dont like.

Concerning these new forums I believe they could be a really great archive for specialty topics. For instance if you wanted to read only about movies you could go to that forum. And the Chat archive could be purged very easily of topics more appropriate to the new specialty forums by mods taking 5 minutes 3-4x a day to scroll the the 2nd page of Chat and move threads into the other forums.

I think there are two very fundamental things that would significantly increase revenue for this site:

1) Every single member here should be treated as a potential paying customer. If us nonpaying people bitch about something not being to our liking, the response shouldnt be "you have not right to complain, you're getting free service" but instead "how can we make this a place you'd pay to visit?"

2) The site should provide services the consumer wants, NOT services Admin wants. This one is so simple and intuitive it requires no explanation.

not true. For me anyways. In the chat and convo you get more then one just feed back from EVERYONE. If it is moved you here one side of the movie story. Therefore, no I wouldnt go search for that movie in that forum.

if i care about a movie ill look in the movie forum.. but then again 99.9% of the posts on C&C are worthless anyways.. especially the ones i make!

I always start on the Style and Grooming board, but just wander over here through some link somehow. You should hang out there some more Smulma. We talk about grooming. Isn't that cool?!

Out of George's request!

He wants the other forums visited.

Yes ma'am I know the policy exists because that's what the administrater wants, but Pam I'm sure you'd agree that services should be tailored to what the consumer wants, and not what the administrator wants.

Would a clothing store operater expect to make money by insisting on selling clothes he personally endorsed even though even after 2+ years they werent really selling?

Look at Life Extension. I have that pool all to myself. :)
