why are people so stupid?

Originally posted by b fold the truth I was discussing this with Cuthbert the last time he was here to train. So many times it is the 'friends' of fellow competitors which fire my attitude up towards them. It is rarely the athlete which claims to know it all, it is normally thier friends and/or family.

If they don't have a clue...don't pay them any attention. Try to explain it once or twice...then let them alone.

i run into this same situation when it comes to discussing helmet laws and motorcycle safety. some people think it's "cool" to ride w/out a helmet (or even ANY safety equipment - gloves, boots, jacket, etc) now that our state has repealed the helmet law. when i try to say "well, it's your head, if you don't value it, don't wear a helmet." some people STILL don't understand. Darwinism in effect right there. let the strong and intelligent survive and let the rest die off. we don't need 'em anyway. i don't even bother to argue. i explain once that while wearing a helmet i was knocked out cold but didn't suffer any serious injuries, and that if i hadn't been wearing that helmet, i'd either be dead or i'd be a vegetable. if they can't understand the value of a helmet after that, then i drop the subject. i won't even stick around to let them argue their point, because they have no point. just pointless to keep explaining something to someone that has a big empty space between the ears.

If this were true it makes me wonder why so many people were arguing against DC training...Dante is like a human wall.

Hold your horses people, I'm not trying to start a flame war or a pro-DC mantra. I'm just trying to illustrate a point. Size may help someone's point be received better, but it's not the be-all-end-all of authority.

BIG ASS BUMP BRO!

Also, the 'big guy' is often a fatass too!

Too true...

I hate it when fat guys assume they'll be strong and good at weights. I've seen it a million times and they can't stand it when they go on the bench after me and have to take half the weight off!! (by the way i'm 6'0", 180lbs)

Weight and size (especially height) has very little correlation with strength.

What about fat guys that can't even get out of bed - they might be 6'5" and 400lbs but I bet they can't lift shit.

Bump for Liftbig's response.

i've just gotten looks from people i know about the protein shakes, havn't gotten any comments from anyone i don't know, cept one day i heard someone say "why is that guy carrying milk around?" i freeze about 4oz of milk at night, add another 4oz in the morning, and just shove the container into a mesh pouch on the side of my backpack, bottle of water on the other side. by the time i'm done my routine, the milk is usually defrosted and i have a nice cold shake. but friends gave me looks when they realized what i was drinking and when i told them why. but it's 100% true, have to start somewhere.

if one of my friends wouldn't of asked what i was drinking and why, we wouldn't be setting up a routine to work together next semsester. and he needs it more than i do. just wait til i tell him he needs to cut his diet, cause he's got some fat to burn off. how do you tell a friend that in a nice way? i'm gonna do my best to be nice. he's not huge, but he's got a little to lose. he left the routine up to me, so maybe he'll leave diet decesions up to me too....

Don't sweat it, bro. I used to bring protein drinks to work and I got a lot of strange looks. Also, I would eat something at 10 in the morning and people would be so fascinated. "Is that breakfast or lunch?". I would just answer "brunch" - if I told them I was eating 6 meals a day they would probably faint. Sometimes people get so damn nosy.

There are no absolutes, but quite often the REALLY big person does have more and better knowledge about training... In a lot of cases...they have been where you are now and have went past it.

No idea if this is the case in your case though.

so scary, yet, so true. i'm so afraid to get sucked into something like that. personally, i don't care what anyone else does. i don't care who does those things and who doesn't. but it's not something that i want to get into. it's so tempting, but i really can't see how the results are worth the risks. i've looked into it, briefly, and read on a few things some of the side effects....is it really worth it? guess that's a personal decesion.

now if my doc decides to give me an oral instead of an injection in my spine in 2 weeks, that's a different story lol
