I posted already and said Neil Pert, but there is a Norwegian (sp) Black Metal band called Old Man's Child. Their drummer is one of the best I have heard next to Neil Pert and Dave Lombardo. Go to Audiogalaxy and download a song or two by Old Man's Child. You'll see what i'm talking about.
Realistically, its probably Carter Beuford from DMB. Regardless if you "hate" dmb for whatever reason, he is an amazing drummer. Only such one that has awed me with drumming. Other good drummers just do fast drumrolls, gets kinda old.
I saw a Buddy Rich tribute which had several awesome drummers, mostly Jazz. Neil Pert was among those who performed as well. While he was decent, he was most definitely not of the same calibur as the other drummers.
Dennis Chambers~ In-fucking-credible! The man moves faster than the human eye.
Some rock/jazz drummers who are not bad are Dean Castronovo, Steve Smith, and Terry Bozzio. I suppose there are some good progressive metal drummers too, ie: Dream Theater, Symphony X.
