Listen, buddy. You're here preaching on about how I don't know what I'm talking about so my opinion doesn't matter, etc. The fact of the matter is that what's would be going on if there is a draft would be a contradiction in itself and validate my point.

What happens in a draft? Civilians are sent, many against their will, to participate in a war - a war to defend freedom.

No, Civilians are NOT sent to war. They are trained, some of them extensively before the EVER see any combat or even see foreign soil. Yes, some are sent against thier will, however some didn't. They burned thier draft cards or moved to Canada. The problem with some Americans is that they want all of the rights and freedoms and privileges that being an American citizen affords them, but they're not willing to make the sacrifices that are sometimes necessary to facilitate those very rights and privileges.

IF YOU ARE BEING FORCED TO DO SOMETHING AGAINST YOUR WILL, WHERE IS THE FREEDOM ONE IS TRYING TO DEFEND?

the freedom of speech, of press, to move about freely, live wherever you want, the right to worship the way you want to, walk, talk, and dress the way you want to. EVEN the right to burn the AMerican flag in the street if you're so inclined. Freedom to open a business, be employed, drive a car, own a horse, own a home, pick a freedom, any freedom... Trust me Warik, if you haven't been to any other countries, and seen the things I've seen, you have NO IDEA what NOT having freedom means.

I'm sorry, but if you think that being drafted means that you're going off to fight for freedom, then you're sadly mistaken. You're going off to fight for some "armchair cowboy" - the same thing you criticize me for being.

I Personally don't think that anyone should command military forces if they haven't served themselves. I think military service should be a pre-requisite for running for president. My personal definition of an "armchair cowboy" is someone who has never been in the military talking about what the military should or should not do. Most of the time, this is not the case, as once the president gives the order for military action, the Joint Chiefs are running shit, and they are NOT armchair cowboys.

for real.. alot of it is common sense. People are people.. there is no one place with millions of crazy people.. and millions of people do not elect a leader who is crazy. I am sure you have met people from all over the world.

BUT.. a world superpower has the ability to make sure that people in close contact with their government believe everything they want. What WE hear on tv is bullshit just to get you to side with them. It works good. They have everyone thinking all towelheads are mindless freaks who want to kill everyone. Yeah, and who the fuck do you think they fought? People who threatened their freedom. You didn't see the Americans battling Japan during the American Revolution, or Canada during World War II did you?

The fact of the matter is that if you are forcing people to fight in order to defend freedom then you are preaching hypocrisy. You can't force people to do something and claim that they are free.

I pay my income taxes and fork out half of my income through other federal, state, local, etc... taxes. That earns me the right to vote and the right to respectfully decline your request to leave my job and my family to go participate in having my countrymen and someone else's countrymen blown to fucking bits. I don't see why you would want someone serving who didn't want to. I sure as hell wouldn't want someone who doesn't want to work working for me.

I see a majority of the replies state that most would not contribute. Yes I agree that most wars are political, but there is always some sort of a cause. Vietnam was to assist in a country by helping it to get under the control of communism.
Dictators such as Hitler were left to mutate until he became so powerful that if was difficult to beat him. Remember the more powerful someone becomes the more people are willing to sit idly by. It comes to a point were a man's power along with his arsenal can easily convince another less powerful country to stand alongside him.
IE: If war broke out with Irac then we need a global effort to unseat him. Americans, Canadians (Go Canucks), Russians etc etc etc need to stand together as the pres. stated at the UN meeting. If left to grow Saddam poses a real and inherrent danger to the entire world. Give him a few allies or maybe even a super power such as Russian or China.......Can you say world war III!
This is why we need more people saying hell ya I'd fight. We aren't talking political now. We're talking about a crazy muther fucking dictator that needs to be unseated.
