I will do my best to keep it from getting personal.

Again, I do see a huge difference between something racial and religious.

Right now we protect religious rights just as we protect civil rights, but its my belief that this should be re evaluated as I believe by protecting all religious rights we are enabling some very damaging dogma and idealogy to persist.

It's bad people doing bad things in god's name. Every religion teaches love and tolerance. I have no doubt you could take random quotes from Buddhist and Quaker writings, post them out of context, and make them look like war mongers.

Do you really believe that if we ammended the constitution and allowed the government to treat certain religious groups differently, that it would somehow have a positive outcome? Mankind has always had some kind of god in its life, whether it's a statue, jeebus, a fuckin' toaster oven, or whatever. Belief or faith in something bigger than ourselves has always been and always will be. Different groups of people will always have different ways of believing. What people believe in doesn't make them worse, it's that they can't and won't accept the fact that others can be just as happy and good with different beliefs. Someone that has no faith belittling someone and saying that their whole life and existence is all bullshit (because that's what it is), is no different than the hateful poison that comes out of some religious nut's mouth telling a girl that needs an abortion or a geigh homo that they will go to hell and are evil.

I see your point.

There are many things that were held as common practice for thousands of years, but we have evolved as a society and no long continue those practices or customs.

I know this sounds extreme, but I do believe that one day religion will be one of those antiquated customs that we look back on and think "what were we thinking?" Much like we do now with torture and public execution, both which were mainstays of almost every civilization from the start of time.

We have some countries now that are pretty agnostic/atheist, and I imagine there will be more. I've read some interesting statistical information about crime rates between god fearing and godless countries as well, and those are quite interesting. There is a strong correlation with how strong a countries beliefs are, and the amount of crime, and even war that the country is involved in.

Again I'll apologize if I ever gave off the impression that I believe that someone's "whole life and existence is all bullshit" due to faith in any religion, that is certainly not the case.

I wouldn't have thought that was what you meant. You're not that type of person.

That is true. If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding.
