Who here has a big screen?

I have an old school (1997) 61" Philips Maganovox. When I get a new one I am thinking about just getting a projector since they don't really make screens that big any more in terms of screen height with most big screens are today being 16:9 instead of 4:3.

EXACTLY, that`s what I was thinking. I have a 50 inch though but would have to get at least a 65 inch wide screen to rival or top a 50 inch 4x3 tv. So I got my eye on the Sony 70 inch xbr. Damn sweet! Check it oput, it`s an LCD rear projection. 70 freaking inches. I love it.

the projectors are not that expensive at all... i'm considering that for my next tv. but do you need a special screen?

Not really. You can just show them on a white wall. I think on something like an empty painting canvas or movie screen would be best though.

Projectors AND screens are expensive for the good quality ones. Several thousand for the set up. If you spend money on a projector, you`re well advised to get a screen for it. The screen is half the battle when viewing projector images.

Also if you watch a lot of TV, you may not want a projector because they have a shorter life span (the bulbs) and they`d have to be replaced more frequently about $400 each bulb. It varies depending on model of course. Also you need a pretty dark room to view a projector. Again, depending on how much you spend, this will vary.
